Photos from tonight's London meetup at the Bricklayer's Arms, taken by a variety of participants. It was a fantastic night.
posted by sueinnyc to MetaFilter Gatherings at 8:07 PM (51 comments total) 5 users marked this as a favorite

The photos are in chronological order. There are lots of them, so I'm afraid the thumbnails might take a while to load. Meetup participants were (in alphabetical order) armoured-ant, atrazine, chrismear, davehat, essexjan, hugsnkisses, MrMustard, Optamystic, sueinnyc and TheDonF.

I'll be at the next [London] one, it looks like so much fun! If I hadn't already puked in my own pants whilst shitting in some geezers sink I would have been there last night. Fuck... perhaps I was.

'Twas a fine night. There was tubgirl talk, goatse gossip and even a Wii related accident. Great to meet a few more London MeFites and let's do it all again in the not too distant future. Gutted I had to depart before the Chinese though. Hope it was good.

I had a great time, apart from the joy of the Tube ride home. I think I was the only person on the train who wasn't drunk. Including the driver.
posted by essexjan at 12:44 AM on December 9, 2006

That was indeed a great night and was also my first tasting of Cherry Beer (thanks hugsnkisses). It's a man's drink and, importantly, each serving contains 1 (one) serving of daily fruit and veg.

Yet again the full experience was stymied by me having to get the last train home. To somewhere that doesn't even have a castle.

I think there were a few people that know people that live down my way. If you're in the vicinity and fancy a micro-meetup then my email's in my profile.

Really looking forward to the next one, which can't come soon enough.

Yay, London! But I'd love to know who everyone is; can someone give us some ID info?

Also where was dodgy geezer? And cillit bang, and the pretty elders of awesome generic?
posted by taz at 2:47 AM on December 9, 2006

cillit bang turned up for a bit and then went off to a gig.

Mmmmkay: first photo facing the camera is sueinnyc, essexjan, atrazine. Next photo is armoured-ant with the black camera and chrismear with the silver one.
Second row first pic has Optamystic standing. Third pic is davehat (thanks for the paper, it was good to read on the way home).
Forth row is hugsnkisses and me.
Fifth row with the red shirt is MrMustard.

greycap - next time phone in sick or something!

oh, and thanks for the badges, chrismear. If there's a meetup in January, I'll bring chocolates.

Sorry I didn't come back. they had 4 support acts and after queuing for coats I didn't get out until like 1am (though they were very good). The mystery guest was a very brief and unenthusiastic I have an album to plug Jarvis Cocker.

pretty elders of awesome generic

He's fallen off the edge of the world. Very sad.

1am?! London gigs are getting later and later - all well and good if you live there, but a right royal pain in the arse if you don't and have to get a train home.

Hope you got some nice coats...

I have put a few photos up here.

Christ, I was smashed by the end of last night. Next time, we're going somewhere where the beer is more than £2 a pint, so I don't wind up consuming my body weight in it.

Also, I look like this? Thanks...

Last time, someone said I looked like Ryan from Scary Go Round.

My head hurts.

Is it possible that London mefites are even hotter than Los Angeles mefites?

I demand some sort of show down. Which city reigns supreme?

Disinterested judge here, but what is up with that? Don't the metafilter men generally seem above average in the looks department? Comments, ladies?

But not before armoured-ant embarks on his American tour.

Jeez, those dudes are super hott. - mathowie

Let me be the first to say (and this is absolutely not under instructions) that the girls are also clearly 'super hott'. Roll on the next Mefi London meetup, which I am told may very well happen in early January.

Did you get that nifty placard done at a Kinko's or some such? Looks like a meet is happening in the DC area soon, and one of those little fellas would be quite handy. Details if you please, thanks!
posted by nj_subgenius at 2:29 PM on December 10, 2006

I fashioned that with my very own Mac, during a particularly quiet lunchtime on Friday. I believe I have the Illustrator file saved somewhere, and shall post it to the front of MeTa tomorrow.

The complete product was colour lasered onto A4 glossy white. A similarly sized sheet of white foamboard was scored lengthways down the middle of one side, then folded to about 35°. The printout was then spraymounted and adhered to the outer of the placard. For convenient storage during transport, the Placard could be opened out - flattened - with the excess printout creased neatly in the scored gap.

Not that I thought about it, or anything.

Don't forget to let chrismear steal it at the end of the night. That bit's crucial.
posted by chrismear at 12:44 AM on December 11, 2006

Sign also good for attracting attention of the next-door table who will proceed to ask many questions about who we are, what we're doing, what the site is, how it works etc. One person on said table had a little box-thing with wires coming out of it clipped to the back of her trousers. No-one dared ask what it was, but there was an android theory floated about.

armoured-ant - are any of your photos going to make it online?
posted by TheDonF at 1:47 AM on December 11, 2006
