Greasemonkey or Mefi Bug? February 23, 2007 8:42 AM   Subscribe

Not sure if this has been an issue for others but.. I'm using the Greasemonkey script for MeFi quotes and every time I click it, it brings me to a blank page. I've updated all the MeFi greasemonkey scripts and I'm on FF 2.0.0.1. Any ideas?

Maybe it's a script or extension conflict -- I use just the quoting script and it's fine over here on both Mac and PC.

Hmmm. Yeah, disabled all extensions except greasemonkey and all scripts except MF Quotes and still nothing. Weird.

SOMETHING NEFARIOUS IS AFOOT!! I DEMAND HOT GREASEMONKEY ACTION!!

Of course, I kid. I'm sure it's just some setting maybe in about:config or whatnot. I kinda miss it.

The URL structure changed from:

foo.metafilter.com/mefi/123

to

foo.metafilter.com/123/ (title goes here if there is one but it's not important)

So scripts will probably need to be updated to grab data from URLs with a slightly different structure.

I just hand-edited my local copy of the mefi navigator script as matthowie describes above, and it seems to be working again - yay

I've received a few emails about the Mefi Navigator script: an updated version is available here.

exogenous, if you just changed the URLs the script is triggered on, you may find unfortunate side effects, where the script runs on Mefi pages that it shouldn't (like the homepage, or FAQ or whatever). GM doesn't allow regex in the URLs, so I had to modify the script itself to make it work only on the correct pages.

Metafilthy has been updated to work with the new URLs too.

Thanks matthewr - I actually like some of the behavior of the script on the unintended pages. For example, it made both of matthowie's posts on the metatalk front page very visible. But I will install your updated version if my script-kiddie-level edit gets annoying.

If you're refering to my quote script, I've not had any problems with it. What other Greasemonkey scripts do you have that apply to MetaFilter? (Right click the monkey face in the status bar, and tell me all of the checked user scripts.)

Deleted posts and contact contributions needed some updating recently, though.
