Mountain View, CA meetup, 20 Apr 2007 April 11, 2007 4:56 PM   Subscribe

Remember the vaunted and only slightly overhyped Peninsula/South Bay (northern California) meetup? IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN. Friday, April 20th, 7:30, at the Tied House in Mountain View, California.

I'll be there for sure. So will scrump and raar.

Any celebrity fly-ins will be announced downthread.

Put me down as a maybe...I was planning on driving up to the Bay Area that weekend anyway, so this is just extra incentive. Woo!

420 dude.

Hmm... only 205 miles from my location, 202 of them straight on Route 101. Let's see if the Wendellmobile is up to the trip (and if anyone will allow me to crash and burn on their couch so I don't have to drive back right away).

I have kinda a lot booked around then, but I'd love to be there. I'm a santa cruz maybeso.

Oh. Maybe. I really should since it's right around the corner from my house. I might not be free, though. Anyway, this is me, thinking "huh, that's an idea" and I might show.

This time Mister Cheese doesn't have to call me out, I'll try to be there! We never did see DaShiv's pictures from the last one posted anywhere, how suspicious. Who knows where the pictures of foam shapes on heads ended up?
posted by wilky at 4:04 PM on April 12, 2007

wilky, I don't think DaShiv ever posted his pictures, damn him. However, I took a bunch with a couple of his lenses, so that's sort of half way there.

And god those were nice lenses.

I get here expecting to have to post something so wilky would be embarrassed enough to go to the meetup and she's beaten me to the punch. I remember the days when she was too fraidy-cat to post in MetaTalk. Now she is a sassy willis.

PS cortex, it was Namco that created Pac-Man, not Taito

Your hosts have decided that, because it's 4/20, everyone who comes to the MeetUp will get their very own pot.

..ted cactus.

Well fuck me running.

I'm new to the area and probably won't be doing anything, so why the hell not.

I kinda think it should be here.

Dude. I thought that was supposed to be a surprise.

Did I harsh the mellow? I harshed the mellow.

NOBODY'S GETTIN' NOTHIN'.

I'll get there around 10:00. Please everyone get very drunk and be not able to leave so I can still have fun. Thank you.

Anybody around going to drive up from santa cruz? Prolly not, huh? Well I might needs a ride to go.
posted by Ambrosia Voyeur at 8:56 PM on April 15, 2007

I don't know what time the last one broke up, but raar and I turn into pumpkins around 2300 or so because we have to pretend to be responsible parents.

Most people had shown up by around 2030 last time, IIRC.

Wendell and anyone else who might need a place to stay on Friday night: I have a sofa, an aerobed, and floor space for intrepid campers.

There are a few caveats. I have to be up and out by nine at the latest on Saturday morning, so everyone else does too. There's a weird bathroom with a slow-draining shower. If you're allergic to or uncomfortable around dogs you'll have to cave the canem as well. But if you can cope with all of that, email me.

I can vouch for the viability of tangerine's lodgings, and the adorableness of the dog. Though he likes to kick in his sleep a lot.
posted by cortex (staff) at 11:39 AM on April 16, 2007

Also, if anyone decides to fly in, I can provide pick-up and drop-off at any of the local airports.

Well, I had to offer something to keep up with tangerine and her lodged dogs.

Do we have a rough headcount? I'm going to make a reservation, and it'd be nice to know about how many people we can expect.
posted by scrump at 10:19 AM on April 18, 2007

Add me to some sort of preliminary list. I missed the last one due to being out of the state at the time, of course.

Damn you all. Close enough for me, and I can't come. I really wanted to do my celebrity-fawning in person...

Hey, scrump of the century, count me and wilky in, yo. Add two willises (willisi?) to your list of head rough counting.

Okay. We're reservated at the Tied House for 1930 (7:30 for you 12-hour-clock types).

Last time, they stuck us in the back, but ask for Metafilter/Ashton, and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

If you don't immediately see us, don't leave! Wander around yelling "MARCO" until we "POLO" you, at least. If you really want to be sure, IM me for my "digits", as the kids say.
posted by scrump at 8:44 AM on April 20, 2007

It is possible. I'm not sure.

One willis, two willes, I'd guess.

Damn. I just saw this. I already have plans though. :(

Did anyone ever identify the mystery Stanford grad student who sponsored wilky and Mister Cheese? Because it might be to that person's advantage to show up.
posted by tangerine at 1:21 PM on April 20, 2007

Oh, that was just me. Sadly, I've got plans tonight, though I'd love to say hi.
(I don't think I ever knew their handles! Glad to see that the meetup initiation went well.)

Anyway, I'll stop by if plans fall through, so you better be having fun just in case!

We had fun -- great conversation and I ate a huge platter of catfish corncakes (mmm).
