Northern New England Meetup @ My Place Sunday May 6th, Early Suppertime.

Lelilo is coming through town and there are enough other folks in the area that I think we can put something together. I figure we can potluck, drink beer and maybe even sit down by the river and/or grill. I'll post more details later on or folks can email me. I live in Bethel Vermont, right off of Route 89. Last local meetup people were bummed they didn't know about it so I'm 1) posting early and 2) going to email the folks in the NNE area to see if they can make it. Invite friends and bring yourselves and some food/drinks to share. Folks can arrive from 2-3 on and we'll have an early dinner. Early to bed people can get out early, others can stay later.

...unless...

Yes, Zonko's joke shop? I need your entire stock and trade in plague sores. What? Yes, I mean, no. The fake kind.

*sigh* Yes, I'll hold.

Ah well. Bethel is sadly too far for a day trip with the kids. Some other time.

I sent an email to the usual suspects and local folks letting them know about this. People can follow up with me or in this thread. Here are more details.

- I live at 177 Church Street, parking is at the White Church down the road.
- there will be veggie and non-veggie food. I'll make something vegan if there's interest
- house has no pets and while it's not super kid friendly, kids are warmly welcome
- you can bring something to cook/prepare/finish here if you want.
- we have wifi, also cameras

Joanne and I will be there with bells on. Unless bells annoy you. Then we'll show up, sans bells.

Jessamyn, how long did it take you to get from Bethel to Portland for the last meetup? I might be able to make it but I'm having trouble figuring out the timing.

JanetLand -- I don't remember how long it took but I do recall that it was exactly whatever Google Maps said it would be.

Segregation in Vermont?

Segregation in Vermont?

I live on Church Street. There is more than one church [actually there are three] so it's important to differentiate.

When my parents first moved to Dallas, Texas in the early 1970s, they were looking at schools on a city map to guide their house-hunting decisions. My Mom, perhaps fearing the worst about her new city, saw 'White High School' clearly labeled and thought, 'well, that's pretty blatant, isn't it?'

Turns out, of course, it was W.T. White High School. I ended up going there for exactly one year before moving to Canada.

Have a great time at the meet-up, everyone.

Ok, that's it, I'm hanging up. I think that this shop is the joke. They just put people on hold and laugh at them, then go home without ever hanging up. Looks like I'm going to have to miss this one.

Sounds like this would be a fun occasion for a road trip. I may very well make it out there.

Also, thanks, Jess, for inviting us to your house for dinner. Seriously - that means a lot.
posted by Afroblanco at 11:47 PM on April 23, 2007

So, all 50,000 of us are invited? This could be just like Coventry, man.

Holy crap, it looks like I've had a reversal of fortune. I am currently planning to attend, barring horrible weather. Can anyone suggest a pleasant, non-interstate, motorcycle-friendly route to Bethel from the Worcester/495 area in MA? Because I totally want to do this up right.

Zowie, this sounds swell. I'll be hosting my mother's birthday party, but have a great time!

I’m in ‘going back and forth between Maine and Vermont’ mode (Maine at the moment), and figured a return visit to Bethel would make a nice break in one of the trips. And I never heard of a meetup in somebody's house, but knew that if anyone would do it, it would be the woman who put the rarin’ back in librarian.

Looking forward to it. I plan to bring at least one plate of beans, to watch people sit around and overthink them.
posted by LeLiLo at 9:01 AM on April 27, 2007

As long as it's not putting the Aryan back in librarian. (What with the White church...)

Okay update for all concerned. Anyone who needs directions can drop me an email. I share a driveway with my neighbors so please do not park in my driveway, though you can unload food and go park at the White Church. I'll be here all day Sunday and will be making some veggie risotto and some sort of bread. People can bring something to share foodwise (I'll update the thread if it looks like grilling weather) and BYOB. There are stores in town if you're making a long drive and don't want to also cook. Dinnertime around 6. I made a little movie about a walk through my town yesterday, you can see what my house looks like.

I'm going to be there! And if the forecast stays sunny for that weekend, I'm taking my motorcycle up NE Rt. 12. Yay, I'm excited!

We'll make a pot of our veggie chili, jessamyn.

Forrest and I will attend and bring a dish. We are looking forward to seeing Stan, Rick, and Sarah.

terrapin and I are bringing cornbread too. Yay! Thanks, Jessamyn, for hosting. Looking forward to meeting new people and seeing friends.

Do we have a final head count? I am so psyched for the trip. Seeing a whole bunch of people at the end will just be the icing/frosting on the cake.

I'm going to leave around 10AM, arriving between 2-3 like the post originally said. I hope that's not too early! I will have to leave kind of early-ish, because I have to be in Boston for work Monday.
posted by Eideteker at 2:53 PM on May 5, 2007

That sounds good, final head count is somewhere around ten depending on whether some of my local friends show up. I'm making a cake. 2-3 isn't too early, if I'm out at the store just come on in. Email or call if you need more in the way of directions.
posted by jessamyn (staff) at 2:58 PM on May 5, 2007

We should be there between 2 and 3. I will need to run home to feed and walk the doggies at some point, but I'll leave turtlegirl to assure my return :)

Veggie Chili has been made (it gets better with age)! Looking forward to seeing local friends and people I haven't met before.

Man, I'd so be there if I didn't have to work. Have fun, all. Vermont's the bestest.

Jessamyn, if you're wondering whose black fleece zip-up coat that is... it's mine. Sorry about that. I'll pick it up from you next time.

I am wearing it right now! Very warm. :) Let me know if you'd like me to mail it.

I have several fleeces; I'm fine without it for a bit. Thanks, though!
