Oh, yeah, and I totally realize that's an assy website, and I haven't been there yet so I've only heard that it's a decent bar.

Just to do the same carping to my post as I would to anyone else's.

I'm in. Look forward to meeting you.
posted by jonson at 7:43 PM on June 16, 2007

I might just be in the area around then, but I will only attend if I get to wear the big green hat. Yeah, I haven't learned my lesson.
posted by wendell at 8:05 PM on June 16, 2007

I would love to come hangout. unfortunately for me I live on the other side of the country, so you all will have to do without my charming remarks in person. Have a drink for me though , I know I'll have one for you even if you didn't need one.
posted by nola at 8:11 PM on June 16, 2007

I can probably make it. Hope to see you all there! (jonson, we can get all giddy and stuff about the upcoming Crowded House show!)
posted by scody at 8:34 PM on June 16, 2007

Mmmmmmaybe. What I'll probably do is put in an appearance and go clubbing afterward. I have a hard time turning down potential karaoke action.
posted by the_bone at 8:57 PM on June 16, 2007

Man, Crowded House and then the next night Wilco & then two weeks later the New Pornographers. A concert rich fortnight for jonson!!

In!
posted by fuzzbean at 9:54 PM on June 16, 2007

Oh, and for the record: Karaoke does not humble me.

I totally want to go to this. However, I may be moving. I don't know. I want to go, though.
posted by infinitywaltz at 10:37 PM on June 16, 2007

I'd love to go, but I'm terribly middle aged. Get the hell off my lawn, you kids!

(I'll try tho'. You punks prolly need a good watchin' over anyways. There's no telling the kind of hijinks and shennanigans whut might conspire without a proper chaperone.)

How shitty is it if I don't show up even if I live almost in walking distance? Very shitty?
posted by Justinian at 3:45 AM on June 17, 2007

I am out of town but you should organize another one when I'm around, dude.
posted by speicus at 7:26 AM on June 17, 2007

When are you back, speicus? September? October?

(And Justinian— you can feel free to get ahold of me before or after then, since I'm in walking distance too).
posted by klangklangston at 12:16 PM on June 17, 2007

Oooh... I am also in walking distance, there's a pretty good chance of my making it.
posted by mzurer at 12:43 PM on June 17, 2007

Yeah, I'm trying to make it, it's just I'm moving that weekend across town. Up by Beverly Center, yay. We'll see.
posted by Justinian at 3:18 PM on June 17, 2007

June 29th... and we will be awarding a special plate of beans to the first person to show up with a brand new iPhone.
posted by wendell at 4:21 PM on June 17, 2007

I just realized - if wendell doesn't show, I'll be the ranking officer in charge, based on a rule I just made up involving lower member number equally higher rank. Awesome. Worst singer is totally going to have to do push ups.

Don't be so sure about that. I may make it this time.
posted by eyeballkid at 7:45 PM on June 17, 2007

That would be just like you, bastard. I'll be damned if I'm doing any push ups for you!! I'll just have to practice my singing.
posted by jonson at 8:23 PM on June 17, 2007

This whole 10 dollar cover or 2 drink minimum at 9pm means punctuality matters for once for an LA meetup?

I'll try to make it and if I do, I may subject you all to something from the Spice Girls back catalog.
posted by mandymanwasregistered at 10:06 AM on June 18, 2007

Thank God, I can't stand their more recent stuff. It's TRIPE.
posted by jonson at 10:41 AM on June 18, 2007

And, if EBK can't make it, then I might -- just so jonson doesn't get a big head and remembers where his user number ranks in the scheme of things here in LA.

Seriously, I might make it, but I'll have to see. That Friday may be rough -- particularly as I'll be starting a giant road trip a few days after that.
posted by willnot at 12:00 PM on June 18, 2007

It would be cool if you could make it willnot. I'm 80% sure at this point that I'll be there.
posted by eyeballkid at 12:08 PM on June 18, 2007

Ruiners! Fun-mufflers!!
posted by jonson at 2:55 PM on June 18, 2007

I may make this one. Long way from me, and I may be moving that weekend, so I may have to totally flake out.
posted by HighTechUnderpants at 3:07 PM on June 18, 2007

Mr. Klangston, I return to the city in late August/early September. I expect red carpet.
posted by speicus at 8:35 PM on June 18, 2007

Sounds like fun, but gas prices and poor financial planning have limited me to one trip out of the IE per weekend. My band has a show Saturday night in Long Beach so I'll have to pass.

However, if anybody is making the drive from the San Bernardino/Riverside area and can take a passenger let me know-- my email is in my profile.

If I show up, I might just lurk on the fringes and occasionally shout out something snarky (then hide behind a barstool.)
posted by davejay at 5:07 PM on June 27, 2007

Just bumping it for the folks who browse on recent... Since it's tomorrow. And I'm pathetically looking forward to it.
posted by klangklangston at 1:55 PM on June 28, 2007

I'm in. No guarantees on singing, though.

Are we going to have a big dorky sign? Or just look for the plate of beans?
posted by milinar at 5:27 PM on June 28, 2007

Someone there have a sign!
posted by jonson at 7:21 PM on June 28, 2007

I can bring an oven mitt with a gingerbread man on it. Does that count as a sign?
posted by fuzzbean at 9:11 PM on June 28, 2007

I'd make a sign, but all I have on my work computer is Quark, and I have no printer at home. I could make an analog sign, but this is a website. On the internet. From a computer.
posted by klangklangston at 9:16 AM on June 29, 2007

Ugh. It's doubtful I'm going to make it now. Looks like I'll be stuck at work.

Could someone get totally lit, do a karaoke version of "Still Crazy After All These Years," piss on a table and pass out in the corner muttering about the "pinko sugartit commies"? It'll be just like I'm there.
posted by eyeballkid at 3:31 PM on June 29, 2007

I might be more tempted if it were Mama We're All Crazee Now.

I've never been to a MeFi meet-up. In fact, I've only been to one site-related meet-up and it was a BME BBQ. Left a bad taste in my mouth, feeling like high school all over again except that instead of big dumb jocks bragging about field goals and running yards - everyone was playing dick contests with the gauge sizes and number/location of piercings/tattoos.

I've no idea what the MeFi equivalent of that would be - but anyway... who can give me a quick wrap-up of what an LA MeFi meet-up is like?
posted by revmitcz at 6:01 PM on June 29, 2007

Much like the BME BBQs, but with more rubber.
posted by eyeballkid at 6:19 PM on June 29, 2007

Gah. Now even though it looks like I'd be a lock for lowest user number I think I'm going to have to bow out as well. Apologies to all. I have some low level cough/sore throat thing that threatens to ruin my upcoming 4th o' July related time off if I go out to loud musicky places. Scody, I'll give you your $36 plus interest, I promise!!
posted by jonson at 7:15 PM on June 29, 2007

Well, I think meetups usually start with the ceremonial "sacrifice of the noobs". No, no, you don't need details. Just...don't worry about it. It won't hurt a bit.

More seriously, I dunno. It's my first official LA meetup too. We can be LA meetup noobs *together*.

When I threw one in Boston, we wandered around for a while until we found some other people who looked Mefitish, then the four of us wandered around looking for other Mefitish people until we reached critical mass and destroyed the city. A good time was had by all.

I forgot to mention that i'm an idiot at time. Even though a calendar hangs on the wall above my desk at work (and another above my desk at home), I thought the 29th was Saturday.

*smacks self*

Mkay. Well, next time, I'm really gonna try to be there..
posted by revmitcz at 9:32 PM on June 29, 2007

No worries, jonson, I didn't make it either.

Also, I forgot to mention that I charge 20% interest, compounded daily. That concert ticket will COST YOU, my friend!!!
posted by scody at 12:03 AM on June 30, 2007

Y'all missed out on some ace interpretations of classic songs. Perhaps some of it will end up on youtube.

mandyman: Who else sang after I left?
posted by the_bone at 9:04 PM on June 30, 2007

Adam, Mandi, klangklangston and I all rocked the mic. If you don't bribe the dj, it takes a really long time for your name to be called. milinar didn't take my suggestion of doing Barbiegirl, sadly.

As we were all getting up to leave, someone started rapping Baby Got Back and we all had to stop and dance until that was over.

Is this your way of saying that I should bribe DaShiv to get photos/videos posted sooner?
posted by the_bone at 7:25 AM on July 1, 2007

I'm the one who needs bribing, the_bone. Although more useful would be "how to rotate a video on a Windows computer"...
posted by fuzzbean at 4:28 PM on July 1, 2007

Okay, photos are up on flickr.

Video is up on Youtube. (And if someone cares to tell me how to rotate them with no special equipment or expenditure of funds (or cares to do it themselves) I'll post updates.

Unfortunately I had to leave before mandyman and klangklangston rocked out (and before I could have done "You're So Vain"). Sad panda. Next time.

Next time I bring cameras. Promise.

Haha, I'm in rural north carolina right now, where you can karaoke AND bowl simultaneously and don't have to bribe the DJ. Can't wait to get back to LA!
