Hmm, can we have the [more inside] field respect line breaks, since they're not chomping up front page real estate?

OMG that is so geeky even by geek standards. Please do this.

Oh, that's funny. I'll see if I can make it.

Btw, I have at least two kites I can bring with me.

Someone made a Facebook event for it, and it currently has 863 confirmed guests.

But yeah, I live two miles away, so I'll definitely be there.

I just gave your more inside a private linebreak massage. For what it's worth, the mi has never respected \n breaks in askme, so this is consistent behavior—manual <br> deployment'll get you there.

I'm planning on going.

Gracias, cortex. I never use AskMe; my expectation of the behavior was based on "non-front-page text-area" = "line breaks ok", which is how (almost) every text area works on the Internet. The no line breaks thing is, in my head, an exception specifically pertinent to MetaFilter's front page areas.

I think for MeTa, it should work the same way as it would work if you were composing your own [more inside] comment. That's just my user expectation, others' may differ. No comment on AskMe, since I don't use it.

I will absolutely be there.

Yeah, I'm not saying it's intuitive or even necessarily "right"—and I don't know if it's documented, either—just that that's how we got here, I think. We might want to change it up to behave like a normal comment field for the [mi]; I'll bring it up.

Are there rollercoasters in Cambridge?

Oh, THAT Cambridge.

Cripes. I'm so tempted. I love that strip.

I'm also so far away :(
posted by Kickstart70 at 9:29 AM on September 8, 2007

I will probably be there as well.

Oh man! I'm so going!

What's the facebook link?

I read that strip but didn't bother to check where the coordinates were. I live in Cambridge, and plan to be there.
posted by tepidmonkey at 2:44 PM on September 8, 2007

The event on Facebook.

What could possibly be happening there? A giant Linux?

I live a couple of blocks away and will be there.

Oh so far. I don't know that it'd be worth 20+ hours of driving. (I checked the coordinates as soon as I read the strip that night, and at that point they were in the middle of nowhere in western NY.)

Oh goddamn! I had a complete brainfart and thought it was next weekend. Fucking hell! I have two obligations on Sunday there's no way I can back out of without being a total asshole. Once the asshole I could have lived with, but not double assholery. Damn... well... tell me how wonderful it all was :)

There is suddenly a chance I might show up to this.
posted by Arturus at 12:18 AM on September 22, 2007

I'll wear my MeFi t-shirt.
posted by danb at 1:10 PM on September 22, 2007

I'll be there, either in my motorcycle gear or wearing my hat that says "EVIL" on it. Possibly both!
posted by Eideteker at 6:37 AM on September 23, 2007

Just got back. Lots of people. Eideteker, did your motorcycle jacket say "Vanson" on the sleeve? I may have seen you.

I met danb and a lurker!
posted by nonane at 1:43 PM on September 23, 2007

I met nonane and Eideteker and someone whose handle I don't remember (sorry!) and THREE lurkers. (One of the lurkers told me "Five dollars? Matsui can kiss my ass!")

Pictures sometime tonight, hopefully.

(Unfortunately, Eideteker is the only MeFite/lurker I thought to take a picture of. He was running around in circles trying to fly a kite on about four feet of string; how could I not?)
posted by danb at 3:33 PM on September 23, 2007

Mapes: No, that was my friend Sheldon from another forum, though. I got some of my motorcycling buddies together, as well. Dan, it was a pleasure to meet you. Maybe at the next meetup, we'll have more of a chance to talk.

Here are two pictures with me in them.
posted by Eideteker at 4:46 PM on September 23, 2007

Here are 130 pictures of, well, everything.

Here's Eideteker with his kite. Here's me with Randall Munroe, apparently having a ridiculous face contest.
