Traverse City, MI: Meetup September 22, 2007 9:13 PM Subscribe
Are there enough mefites for a Traverse City, MI meetup? I am in town until October 11 and am curious to know if there are others in the area. Anyone? Anyone?
I know there's a few of us in the southeast area, around Ann Arbor and Detroit, but that puts us a good 4-5 hours away. I always forget how big this state is.

Traverse City, MI
This is actually just a set piece in a Pynchon novel, right?

Texas laughs at you as it nonchalantly cranks up its AC.

Geez! I think I'm the only registered mifite in town. I'd love to meet up at Bubba's sometime for a beer or something.
Bring me back fudge!
We do cherries here. Go to Mackinaw for fudge.

Shhhhhhhh. Yes, but some of the residents here don't know that yet.

And pasties, right? Aren't you guys like the pastie capital of the state.
Note for non-Michiganders: not what you think, unless maybe you're from Cornwall.

We do have some pasties, but the real place to find them is further up north, like in the UP.
TC is the Cherry Capital of the World, also home of the up-and-coming Traverse City Film Festival.

I met mandymanwastaken once, at a Los Angeles meetup, and it was awesome. She is funny & charming & stuff, and easily worth 7 hours drive or more. This endorsement was entirely unpaid.

I spent months in Northport and Leland (where Tobin Sprout of GBV has his art gallery) and I frankly wish I was up there right now, I would definitely meetup there.
Along with cherries and pasties, lets not forget the smoked fish.

Sweet! Would sometime next week work? Any night, really. I'm home helping my mother recover from hip replacement, so it's not like I have any exciting plans.

I visited there once during my Lost Summer in Michigan. It was beautiful, and you're lucky to live there. I hope your meetup works out.

Sorry! I've been sporadically net-deprived the last day or so. Would next Wednesday at Bubba's work?

Sounds good. I'll try to convince some of my Mefi-lurking friends/fiends to come along as well.

Dang, I'm only 1.5 hours away, so I could chaperone, but I can't travel that far on a school night, on account of being dull, and employed, and saddled with many dogs, and all.
What makes this even more regrettable s that a riveting freshman essay recently informed me of the thrilling news that Kid Rock and Bruce Willis have vacation homes in the TC area, so I'm also missing a chance at a brush with non-MeFi greatness too.

If Dr-Baa wants to move it to this weekend, I'm cool with that. So far it's just the two of us. Otherwise, Dr-Baa, I shall see you this evening.

I hope I'm not too late to update! I can handle moving it to this weekend, no problem, if it mean more people will show! I picked Wednesday for Long Island Ice Tea night, which I'll hit up regardless.
