NYC Meetup: Astoria.

Photos of Wednesday's NYC meetup.

In attendance were: bingo, brujita, DaShiv, GrammarMoses, Help, I can't stop talking!, hermitosis, kkokkodalk, langeNU, lauranesson, Nathaniel W, piratebowling, Skorgu, spec80, Stynxno, ThePinkSuperhero, and three guests.

I miss NYC already! Thanks for the kind send-off, everyone. Apologies for the weird colors in many of the photos -- we were shooting under red flourescent light (the worst possible lighting for digital cameras) and most of my photos came out looking like this, requiring tons of Photoshopping to get anything resembling a skin tone (and at some point one has to resign, hit the upload button, and move on to the next one). I did bring a flash with me but should've actually used it to pump more neutral light into the scene. Mea culpa.

In any case, I'm looking forward to my next visit to your fine city.

P.S. NYC have teh hawt babez. DO WANT.

Dude, again, I bow to your skills in getting such great looking natural shots in such a tough environment to photograph. While you may look at the shots and spot flaws or tone issues, they all look fan-fucking-tastic to me.

If I could send you to every MeFi meetup, I would.

Yay~ It was so nice meeting you (finally) DaShiv! I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the big welcome one, then I felt like at the good-bye one I didn't get to talk to you as much thanks to "The Last Supper"-esque seating we had going on and I was stuck against the wall right about where Judas would've been. Anyhow, you were a sweetheart and don't be a stranger to NYC. And next time finish your dinner before you start snapping away!

Scandal in the making... DaShiv steals pictures his brother "Ben" took for the NYT and claims them as his own! If they hadn't appeared at the Times website first, we never would've known!

DaShiv, these are simply fabulous. Your modesty becomes you, but damn, boy, you're internationally famous for good reason! Amazing what you're capable of with a camera in one hand and a beer in the other! I predict great things for you.

I think the four-pane piratebowling one is my favorite.

Very nice set of shots.
In those crazy lighting situations, I tend to preemt the photoshop frustration by ditching color all together. Black and white has rescued many a poorly lit location shoot for me.

Fantastic, DaShiv. You make me regret having left Astoria. Hell, I could have gotten drunk, made a fool of myself, staggered off to sober up on the walk home, and found the incriminating pictures in next Sunday's Times!

Seattle is far more likely than Vancouver, just because I typically fly Southwest and use its RapidRewards tickets for anything outside of California. And I'd like to visit Seattle at some point in my life! I still have an expired RapidRewards ticket in the bank that'll cost me $50 to activate, which I think I'll do after my next gig/payday. You may need to fight with the folks in Chicago etc. for it though -- it really depends on where there's the largest group of interested meetup folks (and hosts).

Now, as for those poor schmucksCanucks in Toronto... I have no idea how that might work.
