Slow Playback October 11, 2007 10:08 AM   Subscribe

A song I uploaded to Music plays back slower than it should.

I think it's a sample-rate issue. Here's an image showing the difference. The red frame is the song as it plays on Music. The bottom frame shows the waveforms as they should play. Obvious difference.

I seem to recall the flash player guy's docs saying something about how it only worked with standard sampling rates (44khz or multiples of that). Can you re-encode it with something more normal and we can try replacing the file?

If you play it from the download (the little disk icon) instead of the flash player, it plays normal. This happened to a song from last year that I was just listening to a few days ago, now I can't find it.

Matt, could I email you a copy at 44khz?. I'd throw it online but I'm having issues getting it to go up via FTP right now.

Item, thanks. Still, having it slowed down throws everything out of tune and does something to the rhythm that I don't like. I suggest downloading it and slowing it yourself at a ratio of 11:12. (winky-face)

A Flash player will only play an mp3 correctly if it is encoded at a multiple of 11025 - 11025, 22050, 44100 hz.

It would probably be a good idea to make mention of that on the upload page.

I recommend e-mailing Matt about it, having him tell you to e-mail him a replacement, and then having him never follow up on it or do anything about it.

Nevermind about the email. Fixed Sample Rate.

Interrobang, I don't follow your snark.

It's a true story, not a snark.

Then perhaps all hope is lost. . .

I uploaded the new song, so it should work now.

interrobang, sorry I never followed up with your old song. MeFi Music used to be really hard to update/change/admin and it's a lot easier now to update things.

Thanks for the help.

duh! that's who's song it was from last year...interrobang's!
(and a great song, too.)

It is a true story, a snark, and about the most whiny thing I've seen on MeTa in ages. And that's something. Can it all be about me now?

Eat it, Sk4n.

Thanks for the apology, Matt. I don't suppose that mp3 is still somewhere in your gmail account?

interro, how about a friendly reminder email to #1—whose inbox (i can only imagine) must be mind-blowingly full at all times, and who certainly has lots of stuff goin' on other than your song—rather than a snide comment on MeTa?

I didn't mean to make this big a deal of this; sorry.

Also, Matt, I accidentally uploaded a whole brick of doobie to Music, and if I don't get it back down, my dealers says he's going to break my pinkie. I've emailed you a few times, but have heard nothing back, and am desperately hoping you didn't just go ahead and smoke it.

Aaaand it turns out, it was my fault. I'd sent the mp3 file to the wrong address. Boy, am I a jackass.

And now some guy at MeatFilter has your song. Damn it.

This happened to me. Fortunately, people liked the slow version better than the actual version.

Yeah, it happened to me too, though I kinda liked it and never said anything about it. It also happened to someone else today.
