Seattle meetup pics. y2Karl and Black8 regaled us with stories of Seattle history and I learned that if you mention a certain MeFite's name at the Eastlake Zoo, you *might* get a free pitcher.

Excellent disguises. Nobody will ever know who you really are.

Slarty looks British. I'm not sure what that means as I type it, but it's true.

Slarty looks British.

It's the plaid and the scarf. He's the next Doctor Who.

Just don't call me a Scot.

I was once in a band called No British Accents

Wonder no more.

They say that suffering is good for the soul. They say in confronting the foolishness of youth one gains humility.

me in 1985. Yes. that's me. As Keith Partridge in a college videofor a TV show we did for campus cable.

You will be embarrassed for me.

PS. No more meet ups on Thursdays. I teach.

Oh. Wow. I really AM embarrassed for you.

As I noted here, it was a lot of fun. I would like to do another--same place, with more notice and a more tkchrist amenable time.

And we got two free pitchers. Eventually. I thought I could Slarty down to do a y2karl's job but, no-o-o... They made him pay. My bad.

And rider was as pictured--totally out of control bipolar manic. It was scary.

Not!

On my way out I kept looking for his Tardis, but to no avail.

And I'm totally using this picture next time I need a headshot for a conference badge.

I even paid five dollars so that I could attend with a proper name and everything. y2karl, should you plan another meet-up — and I hope you do — I promise that I won't skip it out of a sudden attack of shyness.

Heck, there's no reason to be shy. We're all random people from all walks of life who happened to land here. It's only a little awkward the first time.
I'm hoping TK can make it, I wanna ask him questions about his martial arts training!

I thought I could Slarty down

Um, I thought I could send Slarty down, to be sure. He's not a verb--or dance--yet. To the best of my knowledge. So far.

Heh. Slarty-loo Down Broadway.

I'd hit it.

I'd hit it.

22 years ago. I guess I was kinda cute in that 70's hold over kinda-way. That video was posted by a guy named Brian Ross - he directed it. He could have made some real money if had gotten the blackmail scheme in the correct order. 1. Threaten to publicly release embarrassing material. 2. Ask for money. 3. If payment not made THEN release the material.

I still can't get over you guys met at the Zoo. It's amazing that place is still there. I guess it's like the Comet. It will take a direct asteroid hit to kill it.

By the way Karl that was you looking at the moon the other night. That was me (in the overcoat, suit, and tie), with my lovely wife and dog (the border collie) - walking with Edwina and her mommie. All gussied up. We had just come home from a fancy shin-dig. I was completely cross-eyed and BOMBED. One of the rare times. Otherwise I might have had the fore thought to say hello. As it was we barely stumbled home.

Well, you had been number one on my list of suspects for some time.

I can't get over how much your dog looks like Sidekick, who lives around 11th West and Galer, or rather, lived there in my days on Queen Anne, across the street from a look out over the greenbelt. He was like the mayor of that neighborhood around his block on the west side there. He walked the people who walked their dogs and everyone knew his name. And what an OC stick dog he was--but with a twist. He picked the stick. He wouldn't chase another. And he was perverse about it, too. It could be a leaf stem from a horse chestnut leaf, like as not. But he'd go after it for hours.

Why are there no pictures of y2karl's actual face? Is he in witness protection or some sort of themed bank robbing gang?

I liked the video tk. But then, you know, I'm your fanboy.

In a manner of speaking.

WTF (where the fuck) is y2karl? Dude, you've been a fave MeFite of mine for years. I'm disappointed I didn't get to see your face. I even came out of hibernation to post this, LOL.

But you posted a photo of yourself once in your sparring gear and it did not look like the same person. I smell shenanigans. That's right tk, I accuse you of shenanigans! Let's fight!

Karl's face is actually blurred out in real life. We made him put on the mask because it was freaking us out.

WTF (where the fuck) is y2karl?

I am camera shy, lest my soul be stolen.

And just an hour ago, I heard a woman across the street on Broadway, as she walked into her house, actually say WTF out loud--as in double-you-tee-eff. That was a first for me.
posted by y2karl at 6:24 PM on October 28, 2007

I actually say, out loud; "Gee Tee Eff Oh!", "Double You Tee Eff?!?" and "Oh Em Gee!". I am 37. I might need to be killed.

Black8, you have an awesome smile!

and, tkchrist, there's no doubt in my mind that you're still a cutie.

in fact, it seems most people on mefi are better looking than they give themselves credit for, based on what i've seen in meet-up pix.

Okay. Okay. So I gained a few pounds in the intervening years. 22 years ago I was not the same person. I was WAAAY smarter back then.

But we can fight anyway as long as you don't damage the face.
