Portland, ME meetup? November 14, 2007 4:00 PM   Subscribe

Short notice Portland, ME meetup?

I'm going to be in Portland this weekend and I think I've gotten over my social phobia enough to want to go to one of these "meet-up" things. Any takers? I don't know the area at all, so suggestions would be welcome.

I'd certainly be game - our double whammy mod meet up was a grand ol' time, and I'd be very happy to attend another one. Maybe this time we will see JanetLand, Civil_Disobedient, anastasiav, and generally more of the Mainer contingent. Aaaand maybe Jessamyn again? *bats eyelashes*

Saturday will be best for me, personally. And I'd be up for Gritty McDuff's again, which was the consensus in March - or Flatbread, or anything Old Port.

Depends on time and attendance. If a bunch of folks will commit (Miko, I'm looking at you!), I will make the journey. I'm really busy right now (spending all my time between car shopping and holiday shopping, double ugh) but I love you all and wouldn't miss it for the world as long as I know more than a bare handful of people will be there. Oh, and weather matters, too. It's getting too frickin' cold to ride long distances in rain, esp. at night.

Oh wait, Portland, not Portsmouth. Oh well, I'm still interested.

I should really go so I can hit five of six New England states this week [I have been to three today and one more tomorrow] but I've done a ton of driving and will mostly likely not attend, though I appreciate the good thoughts and blinky eyelashes.

Somebody have a sombrero this time and document it photographically, please. I beg you. You can't get them here.

Nerts, I'm starting a company up in Portland but I'm only there weekdays. Have fun y'all and I'll convene the next one on a Friday when I'm there. Or we could all meet out at Sunday River for a MeFi Mountain Sports Invitational...

Did somebody say drinks in Portland, Maine?! I can do that.

Well, there's at least marginal interest... So I guess I'll make sure to have dinner at Gritty McDuff's Saturday night, and if you want to show up then show up.

I would love to join you, but sadly I'm working Saturday night and we have a Thanksgiving celebration with my husband's family on Sunday.

Some suggestions for things to do in Portland are here.

Have fun!

Mayor Curley - would a pink cowboy hat suffice? That I can do.

So, Gritty's it is, which is perfect for me, but has anyone named a time?

I'm hoping against hope to make it to a meetup this time. For realsies.

The mayor is referring to the beloved-in-Maine Allen's Coffee Brandy, which, when combined with milk, is called a sombrero.

How about 7?

Seven works for me. See you there! If we can spot each other, that is --- is there a protocol for this?

I have a family obligation during the day but if I can break away at a decent hour I'll come down to Gritty's. At the last Portland meetup someone made a little "metafilter" sign for the end of the table.

Hope I can make it!

Sounds excellent - I'll be there with the proverbial tails on.

Well since I apparently fail at being a Maine drinker (it's not my fault, I studied in Canada!) I should order said sombrero for the Mayor.

I might perhaps wear the cowboy hat anyway, it's damned hard to miss. Hope to see you at 7pm!

If a bunch of folks will commit (Miko, I'm looking at you!)

In what appears to be my continual quest to be Biggest Meetup Flake-Out on MeFi, I have to miss this, too. Much to my chagrin, I'll be on a plane coming back from the Midwest. I really wish I could go, as Portland is my most favoritest stomping ground in New England.

If we can spot each other, that is --- is there a protocol for this?

People sometimes make little signs and such, but the funny thing is, you sort of know the MeFites when you see 'em.

Oh, darnit. I just got a nice MeFi mail from Elsa alerting me to this. Next time I will make it! Hope you all had fun and didn't drink too many sombreros. Ick.

I am sorry I missed this, but a full day with four toddlers knocked me out!
