So...DC/Baltimore area Meetup? Maybe the 27th or 28th of December?

Is anyone interested in getting together for a few drinks during the mid-holiday lull? Or should we wait until after the New Year?

Yes, I'm up for it.

Also, since this is a DC area thread, I'm going to plug my dj gig this weekend: This friday, if anyone in the DC area wants to see Crystal Method for free, send me a mefi mail and I'll put you on the guest list.

I'm probably up for it. Weeknights are tough for me, but Friday the 28th might work. I may be a later-comer if the meetup starts early in the evening. On Saturdays I have no problem.

I can't do Saturday because my boyfriend comes back from Oregon that day and we're heading back to NYC shortly thereafter. Say....Friday at 8?

Hey, y'all, if you'll wait until like Sunday night and it's in Baltimore I could be there!
posted by mygothlaundry at 5:05 PM on December 12, 2007

I could go to something at some point and it would be great if it was in BMD so that mygothlaundry could be there.

Out of town that week. :(

seconding the bmore location. I might actually be able to make that one. and either sat or sun would be cool for me.

I'll probably out of town but could probably make any Friday or Saturday after the new year.
posted by Airhen at 6:52 PM on December 12, 2007

Alas. If it's during the weekend, I will most likely have to miss it. You kids have fun.

I'm up for a DC meet.

I'd prefer DC because I'm lazy, but I could make it to Baltimore.

Did the recent baltimore meet up go well?
posted by shoepal at 9:27 PM on December 12, 2007

I might actually be able to make one due to my finishing school.

Yeah, I hear that Miss Havisham's School for Fine Young Women is pretty forgiving when it comes to field trips. *drumroll*

My wife and I will be in the area, but I suspect our evenings are pretty much spoken for at this point.

I'll be in town, though I'd prefer a DC venue, especially if it's during the week.

Also, the MrsMoonPie and I will be having our annual New Years Day brunch on, well, New Years Day, 1pm and following, about a mile east of the Capitol. Anyone who's interested, shoot me an email. I trust that youcancallmeal can vouch for the wonderfulness of the food and company.

Well, I'm up for drinks the evening of Sunday the 30th somewhere in Baltimore. Anyone wanna meetup?
posted by mygothlaundry at 7:44 AM on December 13, 2007

Baltimore, please.

The 28th or 29th would work best for me. I've no idea where's good, though.

if anyone in the DC area wants to see Crystal Method for free, send me a mefi mail and I'll put you on the guest list.

Is that the same Crystal Method as the Bones theme song? If so: wow.
posted by anotherpanacea at 8:40 AM on December 13, 2007

We need a decider.

If we follow the NYC-meetup rule, youcancallmeal should pick a date/place that works for her. And if people still want to meet up in Baltimore on the 30th, then maybe that can be planned as a second meetup?
posted by mullacc at 10:19 AM on December 13, 2007

I think youcancallmeal should so that. It would be too bad to have a meetup to which the suggester could not come.
posted by OmieWise at 10:31 AM on December 13, 2007

Okay, so how about Friday the 28th of December at 8:00pm at....at... oh, hell why not Piratz Tavern in honor of our own Faint of Butt. Unless someone has another idea that won't be packed at 8pm on a Friday....'cause I got nothing.
posted by youcancallmeal at 11:24 AM on December 13, 2007

Piratz 'tis, matey! Uhmm. Yep. Should be able to make it.

I swear I will actually go to this one.

Is there a way to get to Silver Springs from downtown Baltimore without a car? I'm in town for a conference and I'm not sure if I'm going to rent/have access to one.

PS- The sidebar says Washington, DC.
posted by anotherpanacea at 10:37 AM on December 14, 2007

If you can leave early enough to catch a commuter train, catch the MARC train to Union Station and then metro to Silver Spring (or some combo like that).
posted by and hosted from Uranus at 11:01 AM on December 14, 2007

If anyone wants to actually have a meetup in the District, I'll go... and take pretty pictures. I don't usually go to Maryland unless I'm being paid.
posted by TheGoldenOne at 12:12 PM on December 14, 2007

Huh? I'm as big a Washington snob as anyone, but Silver Spring is a $2.20 fare and 14 minutes from Union Station.
posted by exogenous at 12:36 PM on December 14, 2007

WAAHHHH THIS MEETUP IS NOT IN DC!!@!

Anyway. Piratz is .61 miles from the District line. Super-close to the Red line, as well as the 70, F, J, Q, S, Y and Z buses. We'll have the next DC Meetup on H street NE for those of you that won't^H^H^H^H can't make the trip.

So yeah, count me in, +1. Anyone that wants to slide over to Quarry House after, say the word. Beer + Tater Tots = happy ghm.
posted by god hates math at 1:14 PM on December 14, 2007

OMG, Silver Spring is DC. It's about two blocks from a metro. I picked it because 1) PIRATES 2) it's easy parking for those of us who are driving from Baltimore and 3) it's super metro-accessible. GoodLORD, people.
posted by youcancallmeal at 1:50 PM on December 14, 2007

Still, as a native Washingtonian, it offends to pretend that Maryland is 'DC'.

Silver Spring is a a streetcar suburb, but still a friggin' suburb.

It's been requested that I update the sidebar meetup listing. Everybody take a few deep breaths and let me know if all is right in the world now.

You the man, cortex. Come to DC^H^H Silver Spring and we'll buy you some drinks.

Sure thing. I'll entertain you with the story about the time I called Mountain View "San Jose" around a bunch of Mountianvedlians.

I'm a tentative maybe. I hear they have gangs up there. Scary, suburban gangs.

You can take the MARC train down to Union Station and then the Red Line on the Metro to Silver Spring. Last train departs Union Station at 7:30pm, though, and no Sat. service so I don't know how you'd get back.
posted by cowbellemoo at 9:17 AM on December 15, 2007

Depending where in Baltimore one is going, I can potentially offer a return ride.
posted by youcancallmeal at 9:21 AM on December 15, 2007

I think I'll probably come. (I grew up in DC, and sure, I disparaged people in college who claimed they were from DC but were really from Fairfax, or Gaithersburg, but sheesh, I think we're grown up enough to have a DC meetup in Silver Spring. I mean, you did go to Tastee, didn't you?)

I will have car, and will be driving back to Baltimore as well.
posted by anotherpanacea at 9:25 AM on December 20, 2007

But that assumes that you want to drive with person who can't use indefinite articles.

Hurm. Damn. Missed the one at Dremo's, so maybe. I have a feeling this one is not close, but my comprehension of local geography sucks (ex-Clevelander), so who can say. Possible.

I'm sorry that I couldn't make it.

For a future meet-up (for what it's worth), I work at an Irish-themed watering hole in NW DC on Connecticut Ave, one bock from a Red Line station. I can arrange to reserve space and possibly food and drink specials. MeFiMail me for details next time a DC meetup is in the works.

Sorry I was so anti-social last night - I had two friends in from out of town, and after we spent half the night at Quarry House, they decided that they had to see the Piratz Tavern, but weren't quite up for the full Mefite experience. PLEASE DON'T HATE ME!@

We started filtering out after 11, so you probably just missed us entirely :)

It was nice meeting everyone. I look forward to the next one.

sperose: I don't know how we missed you...we were the large group near the front. We didn't have a sign posted up or anything, but we had a few of these lying around the table. Oh well, next time.

I couldn't make it cause I got out of work late.

That is, if I can forgive y'all for planning the Piratz while I was out of the country. ;p
