Photos from tonight's Los Angeles Meetup.

Thanks to everyone who made it out tonight. I had to pull a Cinderella to get home for some work-related work, and I bitterly regret that I wasn't able to get an after-dinner cocktail with everyone. Next time!

Looks like a fun time. These would be much more interesting with useful titles, captions, tags or notes, though.

.:. might be the most irritating title for a photo this side of DSC008541.

Now with added-to-the-open-thread action? Also, do I get flagged for asking who the cutie is? Do I have to couch it in a tags plz?

do I get flagged for asking who the cutie is?

I think it's called domokun. It chases kittens. In fields.

asking who the cutie is?

That's Haile Selassie, the mathowie of Addis.

flagged because the title isn't "Big Trouble in Little Ethiopia"

He doesn't look very Salassie to me.

(Sorry I couldn't make it down the coast. Happy New Year!)

Know why LA sucks? Traffic, urban jungle, big egos and no one who lives there properly titles their Flickr photos.

These are supposed to be in the original meetup thread. Click "Add Photos" on the right side of the page.

Looks like a fun time. And another meetup without shoutouts! I approve.

who the cutie is?

I don't live in LA.

LA Mefites are just too stupid to properly operate an advanced web mechanism like Flickr. Be grateful these aren't black and white Polaroids tacked to a corkboard in the supermarket airlock.

Hey! No shoutouts from Domokun?

Well, anyway, y'all look good in front of those green lights from the bar. I've only been to LA once, a long time ago, but those green lights behind the bar just scream LA!! to me.

Dobbs: thats is katillathehun.

Thanks flapjax. There were no comments in the thread when I clicked to Flickr. I was staring at the photo so long and then posted here and somehow y'all lapped me.

How long has klang had a beard? I never would have guessed from his writing style. Weird.
posted by dobbs at 7:29 AM on January 4, 2008

Heh heh. Nevermind the beard, how 'bout that gun?

How long has klang had a beard?

For exactly the same length of time that he has been cool and bitchin'.

"For exactly the same length of time that he has been cool and bitchin'."

Since I started growing one for a performance of the Tempest, senior year of high school, I've actually had the beard longer than I've been even remotely cool.

I'm still sad that I missed the meetup, I would have gotten the chance to whip out my moleskin and join the self-help group.

Ah well, next time in the valley!

The katilla pic stands in such marked contrast to her profile picture -- which seems to have a violent will of its own, and which I fear may step out of my computer screen and attack me like the little girl in The Ring -- that I did a doubletake when I realized who it was. But I'm sorry, katilla -- it's a good look for you, but you still aren't as cute as Domo.

You're just biased because you and Domo have the same goals, kittens for breakfast.

chlorus, now I feel bad that I took black-and-white Polaroids at the last San Francisco meetup. :~(

To my credit, I did get them on that Flickr thing somehow.

I had a good time, despite the nervous sweat flowing under my sweater. That was my first meetup, and I'm hoping that now my cherry's popped (SKULLFUCKING!) I can relax a bit more in future. It didn't help much that y'all were so charming and good-looking, sheesh.

Klang, my sincerest apologies for not bringing my small talk skillz to the table. Most days I can wax rhapsodic on the hometown and my burgeoning career in bookstore supervision, but beer was expensive and I've resolved other depressants/relaxing agents out of my life for the month. What's four square? Are we talking the playground game or the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel? 'Cause that second one is in mah hood and sounds like an, uh, odd time. Either way, I'm interested.

Argyle rules. Thank you for the Moleskine and sharing your toys with us. I'm totally bringing that notebook to the next meetup for yearbook round two. Don't ever change!

I'm not familiar with Artie Lang's body of work, but OK thanks, I guess.
posted by carsonb at 11:32 PM on January 4, 2008

Foursquare the playground game. I'd never heard of the church (I could invent a rival doctrine based on the playground game, and claim schism, though).

And you did fine on the smalltalk. More (cheap) booze would have helped, but whatcha gonna do? It was a Thursday, and I had to work in the morning.

Jon—Dude, I gotta get out to NY. It's been years, so I just need an excuse. Then I can show you my many (two) hats!

Ha! I have seven, almost all from obscure minor league teams or defuct major league ones. I win!

In a hat wearin' contest, jon, it's how you wear the hats, not how many you have.

posted by jonmc at 6:53 PM on January 5, 2008

The most polite way to wear a hat is to take it off when you enter a room and never put it back on again, ever.
posted by Justinian at 6:53 PM on January 5, 2008

Aw dammit. I wanted to go to this one but I forgetted. In the long run, you're probably better off *sniff*

However, you look like nice folks and maybe I'll make the next one.
