Copenhagen Meetup: March 9th? February 24, 2008 11:43 PM   Subscribe

I have the good fortune to be planning a visit to Copenhagen on Sunday, March 9. Inspired by previous success, I'd love the opportunity to hang out with some local Mefites. Meetup?

It looks like the last Copenhagen meetup was just awesome! Mrs. Leotrichous and I will only be staying in Copenhagen for that 1 night, although we will be staying in Malmo Friday and Saturday nights March 7 and 8, and if one of those would work better, we could always just take the train over. Is anybody available and/or interested? We'd love to meet you.

I'm in Malmö. I can do either side of the bridge - there's a good pub here too yaknow, pricier though. Also, sveskermus is a RIOT you better come!

i don't know where that stray "r" came from. It attacked me while I was typing. I hope I don't get abies now.

I'll come. Any one of those days works fine for me and like dabitch I can also do any side of the bridge.

ulotrichous, are you really the king of geeks? How do we address you? Would your majesty be appropriate?

Malmö Saturday night could be an option. Should be fun!

I am more of *a* king of geeks, with a small, limited fiefdom. Maybe baron of geeks is more like it. You may address me: "hey dork"

Saturday night in Malmö sounds like a good time to me. I'm sure dabitch will have a suggestion as to where to go?
posted by sveskemus at 12:09 AM on February 26, 2008

rawk on. I'll check what's happening on the 9th - before that we should meet up somewhere where we can talk though, right? How about a dark pub that serves 250 different kinds of single malt right across the bridge from the station (= easy to find) - that is Bishops arms. It's actually in The Savoy.
posted by dabitch at 5:24 AM on February 26, 2008

I don't know how long you intend for us to stay at the Bishops arms before moving on but I think you may want to check out what's happening on the 8th as that is the Saturday we're talking about, right? :)

The 8th sounds good to me. I'll put it on the sidebar and I'll also MeFi mail a few of the active people in my nearby users list just to make sure they are aware that a meetup is taking place.

hehe, silly me. The 8th, of course.

Cool! That would be great. We're staying at the Mayfair so it couldn't be closer. I'll ask my swedish librarian friends if they want to join us as well. Thanks so much, we're looking forward to meeting you!

We could eat too, like start the evening at Carib Kréol for some caribbean grub good mood and beers, (in which case I'd have to book a table) and then move on to jeriko (Where "a mountain of one" will be having some sort of after-gig party after they finish playing at Debaser that evening) or check out Bodoni.
posted by dabitch at 7:34 AM on February 26, 2008

All we need is a time then, I guess. If everyone fances liquid dinner Bishops is best.
posted by dabitch at 7:56 AM on February 26, 2008

Carib Kréol sounds wonderful. But if everyone else prefers drinking to eating I can do that as well of course. :)

Anyway, just call me Mr. Flexible because I can do whatever.

So ulotrichous , you hungry?
posted by dabitch at 2:46 AM on February 27, 2008

Yeah, Carib Kréol sounds great indeed! Maybe 7 or 8 PM or something? Whatever you think will work well for subsequent escapades, dabitch. I will find out directly if my two Swedish friends would like to join us and report back.
posted by ulotrichous at 5:38 AM on February 27, 2008

OK, my two swedish friends are in as well as one of their significant others. I think they will be mefites by the end of the evening.

Okidoki, booking a table at Carib Kréol for six people? Eight?
posted by dabitch at 4:02 AM on February 29, 2008

Eight people. God, I can't count.
posted by dabitch at 4:02 AM on February 29, 2008

Table booked at Carib Kréol for seven pm and eight people.

I'm also interested! Sorry for the late response. I'll bring my partner too!
posted by beerbajay at 7:48 AM on February 29, 2008

Two minutes late! Förlåt!
posted by beerbajay at 8:21 AM on February 29, 2008

Should I change the reservation to ten people? I'll do it tomorrow (the restaurant doesn't answer the phone at this hour on a Friday). Be there at seven!
posted by dabitch at 9:28 AM on February 29, 2008

Cool! We'll be there. 7pm, Saturday night.
posted by beerbajay at 4:26 AM on March 3, 2008

Is it possible to add a seat to the reservation? In that case I'll come down from Göteborg. Sorry for being late.
posted by springload at 1:13 AM on March 4, 2008

Yay, more people! This is beginning to look like one big-ass meetup (by Scandinavian standards anyway).
posted by sveskemus at 7:39 AM on March 4, 2008

Guys, we're in trouble - they can't fit eleven at that table - we have eight chairs and all the other tables are booked.
posted by dabitch at 9:07 AM on March 7, 2008

Oh shit. It's a bit late to find another restaurant that will take in 11 people I guess. So just drinks, then?
posted by sveskemus at 11:35 AM on March 7, 2008

Dang, I was looking forward to grub. :(
posted by dabitch at 11:49 AM on March 7, 2008

Yeah, me too. But there's not really much we can do about it unless you know someone who can fit us in. So what's plan B?
posted by sveskemus at 12:18 PM on March 7, 2008

Since we can't seem to reach everyone I think plan B is - meet there, try to squeeze in, hope for cancellations, steal peoples chairs, if that fails go elsewhere.
posted by dabitch at 2:51 AM on March 8, 2008

That sounds good to me. Especially the stealing people's chairs part.
posted by sveskemus at 3:12 AM on March 8, 2008

Sounds good too. Glad I checked; we'll see you guys there at 7 and play it by ear. We'll figure something out. I'm going to mefimail you guys my US phone number which works here, especially for texting, in case we need to connect. See you soon!
posted by ulotrichous at 7:18 AM on March 8, 2008

we're here a little early; they have given us 11 seats at our table so it looks like we will be a little tight but all should work out fine. See you shortly...

Good god it got late last night. Brilliant meetup!

dabs, could you check that I tagged your shoutouts correctly in the pictures I've uploaded? I wouldn't want to offend anybody. :)

Done and done. PS the cat says Hi.

Oh, that was a great night - thanks everybody!

At three o'clock, Malmö closed and we tried to get to Copenhagen in a riksha. When that failed we went to dabitch's place and screwed around with her pets over some Pitú + Jolt Cola.

dabitch and sveskemus, I loved hanging out with you and hope to soon get to return the drinks I owe you.
posted by springload at 8:57 PM on March 9, 2008

Thanks so much for a wonderful evening, all. I hope to come back to Malmö in the fall and we'll have to do it all again!

ulo, I'm so sorry I never got around to texting you a restaurant recommendations for your dinner in Copenhagen. My Sunday got a bit hectic with visitors and such and I simply forgot about it. I hope you managed to find a nice place to eat anyway and that you enjoyed Copenhagen anyway. Please do call for a meetup next time you're in Malmö. Maybe next time we can do it on my side of the bridge.

You mean that you were actually awake and coherent on Sunday? I was hiding under the covers swearing off Pitú and Jolt forever.

Tee-Hee, loved the midnight mod invention! Looks like a great night you guys, y'all look wonderful!

dabitch: You mean that you were actually awake and coherent on Sunday?

Awake, yes. Coherent, not so much. And as you can tell from my writing up there I'm apparently still not in the best shape.

No sweat, MC sveske. We found Cafe Wilder in Christianshavn and had an amazing meal; we're now back home (although sans bags, hopefully temporarily) and the DSB Køreplan was my son's bedtime story tonight. Hope to see all of you again sometime. And thank goodness we finally have a midnight mod!

Backwards-shoutout to sveskemus! And dabitch! And her cat! And turtle! (Okay, I've never met the latter two.) You guys make the Copenhagen/Malmö experience worthwhile, indeed. Looks like a good time was had by all. Jealous! I guess I'll just have to make another trip.
