screenshot So, this page is a little odd...

Not that I mind a blue MetaTalk with a tag party going on, but maybe the URL could use a little work.

It's kinda cool in a strange way. Here's a screenshot for posterity.

Also, apologies for the typo'd "screenshot" there, heh. Malformed, I am posting so.

Huh -- clearly there's some page there that isn't using the same template as everything else. You mean AskMe, right? It's AskMe content with a MeTa header and MeFi blue.

heh, fixed. we should probably redirect people from www.ask.metafilter.com to plain old ask.metafilter.com.
posted by pb (staff) at 1:52 PM on March 5, 2008

It started happening to me then I realized that it only happens with the "www." infront of the ask.metafilter.com

*sigh* I got scolded recently for using the plain template instead of the classic. I just love colour TOO MUCH to be distracted from THE WORDS by all the luscious COLOUR.

Was I shouting? I was, wasn't I? I'm so sorry.

Who scolds people over their choice of stylesheet? The entire site has a clean white background to me.

This sentence took me a full minute to understand. I'm not sure if it's due to the energy drink smelling vaguely like gasoline that's supposed to sustain me long enough to finish my essay, or if cortex's syntax really was messed up. Hope me.

Speaking of redirection, there are some images from back in the days when images were allowed that Matt posted (most notably the Syzzzyrup one, which I eventually tracked down) which were at http://metafilter.com/junk/xxxx.xxx which now directs to http://junk.metafilter.com/xxxx.xxx, but, of course, the files just ain't there.

Pretty minor, but I noticed it while searching for the pancakes image a while back, and didn't think it was worth starting a thread over.

Internet Archive to the rescue, and then some! Not only have they cached a lot of these old, no-longer-available images, but they've also snagged some copies of old server statistics (available on those first few pages of search results).

DID YOU KNOW? In the merry month of May 2002, precisely 19 people were referred to MetaFilter whilst searching Google for "sunny+lolitas". It's true!

Yeah, I did eventually find the image using the Wayback machine, I just thought I'd let pb know in case he wants to fix it. Pretty minor, I know. And come to think of it, I may have gotten the current vs. old URLs wrong, but you know what I mean, I hope.

"

It's the preposition at the end, isn't it. I've been chiding cortex about that and his stylesheets for years.
posted by Plutor at 3:39 AM on March 6, 2008

I can't use the plain stylesheet. I require color to let me know what level of attention I have to pay to the coherence of my comments:

Green: Write clearly and on topic

Blue: Try to be on topic. Well... don't try too hard... Ok, at least, try not to constantly call everyone "pig-fuckers".

Grey: Everyone is a pig-fucker, let them know this. All the time.

The 'downfall' line is straight up jacked from Springfield publican Moe Szyslak, for the record. And it may be the very best single line in the long history of show that already probably holds the career gold for volume of intentional linguistic tweaks. It's just such a wonderfully perverse displacement-by-mistaken-preposition. I love it.
