music videos on mefimusic? March 6, 2008 11:47 AM   Subscribe

I've recently made a video for a song which I'd previously posted on mefimusic. The video includes a remastered version of the original song plus a reprise. Would it be kosher to post this to mefimusic, using the reprise as the uploaded mp3?

Something about making a single link youtube post on mefimusic made me think I should ask the hive mind first.

So can you post a new version of the song and link to the video in the post? I don't see why not.

I see why not....but I'll never tell.

Is the YouTube embed feature enabled on mefimusic?

Don't think so, no; I'm pretty sure it's only on the front page. It's not something that would get any regular use over on Music, at this point.

Nope, the YouTube player isn't active at music. It looks like there's a little YouTube linking going on over there, but nothing compared with MeFi.

Is there a big downside I'm missing to enabling it? Is it a server load problem? Nasty PITA? I think it would be really fucking awesome to have bootleg live and music videos all over MefiMusic.

bootleg live and music videos....of the contributors, not just random stuff....

Do it! cortex is the first and final word on the matter; I'm just dicking around, fishing for ponys.

fine. i'm doin it.

We could allow embedding, if other mefi music users are into it. The only prob is that I don't think more than a handful of mefi musicians are making videos and it might attract the weird self-promoter types off myspace or something.

Since your music video is mostly made of pork loins, birds of prey, and swordfish, the answer is no, it would not be kosher.

AZ you just prompted me to do my strangest google search of the day:

"swordfish isn't kosher"

And now I know something I didn't know before.

I saw veal boiled in its own mother's milk, too.

Conservative Jews will eat swordfish.

If mathowie's comment is a call for votes, I vote to enable it. I think not many self-promoters would come here and pay 5 bucks for something they can do for free everywhere else. I'm all for it.

Conservationist Jews, on the other hand...

They don't seem to have a problem paying to play on the blue.

Did you ask Moses?

Right, but the blue gets much more traffic, and that is easily noticed. Also, the people who come to try to promote stuff in askme or the blue are of a different profile than the youtube/myspace kid promoting his band. I seriously don't think it would become a problem.

Dear Moses, does Billy Gibbons look like you, or do you look like him?

Another vote in favour of. Shouldn't we take this on a case-by-case basis? If there really turns out to be a deluge it could always be turned off - I promise not to moan.

I vote for embedability! Embedability! Embedability now!!

Hell yea. I vote yes.

Some of us (me) could barely record music when MeFiMu fired up. So anything that promotes personal growth is cool with me!

I've done it. So, I assume it's alright.
