Recent Photos page is effin' huge. April 8, 2008 9:38 PM   Subscribe

Playing around, I discovered that our community flickr / "Recent Photos" page is about 0.5MB of html, and over 25MB of img tags and other stuff. It's cool and I'd like to check it out occasionally, but it locks up Safari for solid minute or so loading all that stuff. Can we paginate it or make it smaller or something?

Yeah, we can tune down the number of photos shown on the page to something more manageable.

I like it the way it is. The HTML loads immediately in Firefox, then the images load top to bottom as you scroll down looking at them.

Maybe keep this version and add a paginated version?

Hey, it does lockup Safari! I wish I had read that a little closer before I tried it.

Just a thought, I don't know how much work it would be, but just as the Mefi Music section offers a Flash interface for playing music, how about a Flash interface for browsing recent pictures, like the free-for-commercial-use SimpleViewer. That way, there's less lock-up and a nicer interface to boot.

Flash interface for browsing recent pictures

Have you ever read the resulting thread when a FPP links to some photographer's flash-driven site?

We don't need to inflame homegrown snark on our own shores.

Recent Photos would benefit from an RSS feed. *big doggie grin*

Yep... its been a pain to view so it would certainly be more useful if it was a smaller # of images/page. I rarely check it out because it takes so long to load!

Did not want to start a new thread since this is about the flickr recent photos page.
Is there something that can be done so that the videos appear different from the photos like they do on flickr, the little play button on the left corner.
Just asking.
