Pop songs your new boyfriend is too stupid to know about May 27, 2008 12:05 PM   Subscribe

I'll be in NYC the weekend of June 13th if anyone would like to meet up.

I'm going for NYC popfest, so I'll be attending those shows Friday and Saturday evening, but I'd be up for something earlier on either day, in the 2-5 PM regions. Anybody interested?

Let's have a picnic in Central Park! I've been wanting to do a picnic forever. How's about it?

I'd be down. I also might try to make the Tullycraft show. I heart them something fierce.

Ooh, picnic + Tullcraft = exciting.

I say we do picnic in Central Park.

We could frolic! I can provide unlimited frisbees (there's a box full of 'em laying around my church).

Listen to her. TPS is a girl who knows how to frolic.

I might still be in town! And I've been craving frisbee.

You and I will be switching places, ludwig_van. I'm in Philly that weekend for PC orientation. Have fun, though.

I'd show up, if only to see BrooklynCouch try to troll a picnic. It's gonna epic something.

Be nice, please. I'm not sure I can "do" Central Park. It's overrun with people after April...WHAT's in it for me?
posted by BrooklynCouch at 9:24 PM on May 27, 2008

There is absolutely nothing in it for you, other than having a chance to hang out with some nice people, same as for everybody else.

Meanwhile, I propose we meet up on the north end of Great Lawn (map) at 2 p.m. on the 13th. How's that sound for everyone?
posted by ThePinkSuperhero at 9:28 PM on May 27, 2008 [1 favorite]

Just make sure to leave [redacted user] at home, Brooklyn.

Well, here's what, uh, Yahoo Answers has to say. I would imagine as long as you're discreet, things will be fine.

So yay, a picnic! I'm excited.

It's not that it's favorited, it's because someone picked it as the official comment when adding the meetup using the link on the MetaTalk sidebar.

Grrrr!!! I have the Tour de Cure that day.

I should be in town, and capable of much frolicking. Are we like...coordinating who's bringing what, or is this a to-each-his-own thing?
posted by allkindsoftime at 8:13 AM on May 28, 2008

I figure everyone can bring what they want, maybe dropping a line here to say if they're bringing anyting special.

cl, I have a really great set of sleep-blinders I can lend you. You can enjoy the dark, and you won't have to see what you look like wearing the mini-umbrella hat that I will also supply.
posted by StickyCarpet at 6:46 AM on May 29, 2008

Does central park mean no drinking, though?

Alls you need is a little brown bag on your deli beer, but a thermos of frozen margaritas, or mojitos, or nice bottle of red, with plastic cups, is the preferred way to go.
posted by StickyCarpet at 6:51 AM on May 29, 2008

Historically "Poland Spring" bottles and adulterated coke and starbucks coffee drinks have enabled numerous publicly intoxicated binges in our fine city.

Or so I'm told.

I'll see if I can make this, I might be in Maine though.
posted by Skorgu at 9:47 AM on May 29, 2008

Do I have to wear the mini-umbrella hat AND the fedora? That might be a bit much.

Then again, depending on what Zephyrial puts in his brownies, I could be persuaded.

You could probably sneak in a G&T in a thermos, but it might go flat by the time you get there.

I was on the uptown 1 train and saw a dude with a crowned eagle bedazzled on his fedora. It was a lot of bedazzline too. The wingspan of said eagle took up half the circumferance of the fedora. It was super shiny. I just wanted to share this.

Neat. A meetup in which I don't feel compelled to drink alcohol. I can throw a frisbee all day. There's a method of tossing I used to have that needs lots of work. I dunno, maybe my wrists have rusted.

Frisbee golf, anyone?

How sad. I have been wanting to go to a meetup, especially in NYC where I want to meet more people, but I either find out about them too late or I schedule arcane rituals on the saturday they happen. If I'm not dosed to the face I'm planning on attending.

I am getting there early to stake out some space. For those worried you won't be able to find us, I am bringing several things that I hope will help: a dozen neon fedoras for attendees, a plastic lawn flamingo to stand watch over our area, and I'll be wearing a very wide brimmed brown hat. Anyone who gets lost can call me- 727.475.4373.

I will bring some fruit -- grapes and strawberries and other berries. And... soda? Cups? plates? I can bring those too because we have a ton.

But if the temperature gets over 90, I might not show. Or I will show up to miserably demonstrate the joys of preggo swollen ankles.
posted by gaspode at 9:10 AM on June 12, 2008

I will be there.

And I will be bringing nuts and dried fruit.

If there's anything else y'all would like for me to bring, please let me know.

Cheers!

Oh, and I'm possibly bringing my non-Mefite friend Amanda, who I know from church.

A note: People may want to bring their own beverages. I thought about bringing enough for everyone, but really, for anyone to lug that much weight seems like torture in this weather.

They are at the north end of the great lawn (as said) on the west side, in between some baseball diamonds, under some trees (yay, shade!). There is a lawn flamingo to mark the spot. See you there!

Believe it or not, but through a completely unplanned coincidence, I was in your city and bored in Central Park pretty much exactly when this meetup was happening. I was on Great Hill, and then it wasn't boring anymore where it was raining like nuts and I was a-feared of getting hit by lightning. Good times.

The outdoor format was kinda fun, I thought. I'm imagining an early evening picnic outdoors with a BBQ, where we can blast my fantastic portable battery operated stereo, with coolers full of whatever anybody wants/needs without the park ranger's scrutiny.

CL can smoke her big corncob pipe, and I'll show you all how to blow big fireballs with 151 rum.
