When did Salon start requiring a WELL account to use Table Talk?

I know I missed the boat but when did Salon start requiring a WELL account to use Table Talk? And why would anyone join the most prominent online community so they could post to Salon? Does that make sense to anyone?

Salon bought the WELL in '99 so there's bound to be some mixin' going on.

Last summer, I think, Salon started charging something like $10 a month to use Table Talk, and you got a WELL account with the new plan. Almost no one signed up, and the place has become a virtual ghost town.

Although, if you have old friends there, it's all worthwhile.
