September / October Seattle meetup? September 24, 2008 12:52 AM   Subscribe

A September / October Seattle meetup perhaps?

I've missed the last 3 and regret it. Would like very much to meetup for drinks, food, conversation, whatnot. I suggest the Cafe Metropolitan in Capitol Hill. Super cheap, decent food, delightfully tacky, and parking not impossible at near by Cal Anderson Park.

If you need further convincing, here's a quote from a review:

"With it's France Land at Epcot Center as designed by your high school theater set designer decor...."

I'd probably be up for it.

Me too. grouse, you and I are neighbors could you turn down the music?

PS. I've always wanted to do a meetup at the Pacific Inn. In the summer, every time the Ride-the-Ducks goes by, the people on the patio are there to defend Fremont with their supersoakers. Good times.

I have had many a drunken evening their, I'm just fine with the Pacific Inn.

Wow, too busy with work. There

I've been meaning to try the Pacific Inn. That would be pretty good for me.

I must note that the Pac Inn has the best fish & chips in Seattle.

Let's do this thing.

So, what day/date are we looking at? I'm pretty much open to any day except Tuesdays.

I have missed the last couple of these. I have plans for the 11-12 and 17-19 in October but am generally free otherwise.

I should very much like to go to a meetup that's in the state I actually live in. (7 years on MeFi, and my only meetup was in Austin for crying out loud. I almost made it to one in 2002, but there were sitcom-like mishaps.)

Buuuut...getting to & from Seattle from Oly can be a trial at the best of times. I do have every other Friday off, which makes those weekends more feasible (3-5, 17-19, 31-Nov 2), although if the weather is good I'll be working on my house/yard instead. My preference is for locations downtown or very easily accessible by bus from downtown.

IOW, just go ahead & make some plans, and there's a ~15% chance I'll be there. :)

Sorry, lattiboy, I didn't mean to undercut your Cafe Metropolitan plan. Any place is good for me, seriously. The patio at PI is probably closed for the season by now, tables are smallish but it's a hell of a place with strong drinks, the best jukebox in Seattle, and freakin' tasty fish and chips. I'd suggest midweek or earlier on a Sat or Sun if we're doing the PI, just because of crowds.
posted by Slarty Bartfast at 1:51 PM on September 24, 2008

Yelp has some awesome photos of the PI.

I was about to suggest that we roll a Pacific Inn meetup into this weekend's showing of Big Lebowski at the Fremont Outdoor Movies--you know, have a beer, head over to watch the Dude, head back for more beer? Alas, I just found out the showing has been cancelled. So, thanks for this thread because otherwise I wouldn't have checked the FOM site, and thus would have been in Fremont on Sunday evening carrying a bowling ball for no reason.

I'm depressed about this Big Lebowski thing. Please set a date for this meetup so I know when my sorrows can be properly drowned.

I think October the 3rd (Friday) or 4th (Saturday) would be ideal. I don't feel like waiting forever and I think most will be free. I prefer Saturday afternoon. Say 3 or 4PM? Again, I've got a pretty open schedule, so feel free to adjust..... any day but Monday 29th, going to Cold War Kids at the Showbox.
posted by lattiboy at 1:23 AM on September 25, 2008

Also, @Slarty: No problem man. I just threw out the Metropolitan because it's cheap and close. I would like to also elect the Canterbury Ale & Eats up on 15th. CHEAP booze, amazing greasy food, pool, darts, ect.
posted by lattiboy at 1:27 AM on September 25, 2008

Actually, I think the Metropolitain would be kind of cool- it's a neat little place, and like two blocks from my house. But I never seem to show up to these things, so I guess my opinion isn't really relevant. :)

I'm out of town 3–5 October. Hope y'all have fun.

Depressingly, I am available for the entire month of October with no plans for any fun at all.
posted by Slarty Bartfast at 10:01 AM on September 25, 2008

That just means you're spontaneous! What's more fun than that?
posted by grouse at 10:28 AM on September 25, 2008

Hey, I just threw the 3rd or 4th out there. I'm fine doing it THIS Saturday if needs be. We're just meeting at a bar. No real logistics involved.
posted by lattiboy at 10:36 AM on September 25, 2008

I'm interested. Never been to a mefi meetup before. I don't know anybody and nobody knows me. Is that cool?

My vote for venue is Cafe Racer. It's the coolest place to hang in Seattle, and we would be able to reserve the back room. If not this time, I'll try to organize one there eventually.
posted by jclovebrew at 1:34 PM on September 25, 2008

I'd like to participate.

Based on this comment:

I must note that the Pac Inn has the best fish & chips in Seattle.

I'd be inclined choose this place.

Okay, I think we can agree on Pacific Inn. Now, for date and time. I vote for this Saturday or next Saturday (October 4th) at around 2:00 - 3:00 PM. This place does get a pretty big, rowdy crowd going on the weekends, and I'd like to avoid that if possible.
posted by lattiboy at 9:10 AM on September 26, 2008

October 4 is better for me although I could be at either. ("This Saturday" = tomorrow.)

My vote is for 11 October or a weeknight. I'm out of town on 4 October.

I'm good for October (fortunately there's a bit of a break in this weird fall wedding season--don't people get married in the spring anymore?).

Someone should pick the date and make sure it goes up on the sidebar.

Okay, I think it's pretty much official now.

Date: Saturday, October 11th

Place: Pacific Inn Pub

Time: 3:00 PM

I think most of us have met, so meetup shouldn't be a problem. If I haven't met you, I'm 6'8" with red hair, so that should narrow it down for you. I'll get there a little early and snag a table for however many people RSVP to this. So far, we're at three.......
posted by lattiboy at 1:32 AM on September 27, 2008

6'8" only narrows it down if you're standing up, and red depends on lighting and definition.

Maybe I'll scrawl Metafilter on my forehead and stare fixedly at tables until I either get thrown out or some sympathetic schmuck flags me down.

Looking at the pictures on Yelp, I could swear that this is the same bar where some friends and I once killed an afternoon playing Buck Hunter, an upright video game that lets city slickers experience the joy of shooting deer with large guns and drinking at the same time. The reviews don't mention this feature, though. Am I thinking of another bar in the vicinity with the same general appearance?
posted by cirocco at 9:35 AM on September 27, 2008

wow, how did I miss this meetup post?

I should be able to make it. Haven't been to the Pacific Inn, but I can put it on my list of seattle dive bars I've been to.

I live near the Cafe Metropolitan, it really isn't worth the time. Besides its weird epcot like appearance, it is just yet another seattle bar, with $1 PBR and hot dogs.

Stumbling Monk is a better choice for a Capitol Hill meetup place. Or possibly Twilight Exit in the future (they now have a chicken fried bacon BLT, slarty I think that has your name all over it).

Someone want to MefiMail other folks who haven't poked there heads in here?
