Yay, I'm so excited for this! Just to warn y'all, I'm gonna be a ball of hyperactivity b/c I'm so excited to be moving back to town, especially in time to see the Wusses! (The Wusses are a bunch of supremely talented local musicians who formed a band for the Great Cover-up like four years ago, and occasionally they get together on special occasions to play 70s soft-rock faves.) Anyway, they're really great guys and they put on an AMAZING show, so I hope some of you will come! What better way to ring in 2009 than with two supercute Mefites and some classic tunes?

Aw dang. I'm visiting family/friends in Durham over Christmas, but I'll be gone by then. Hope y'all have fun, though!

Hey, MB, I'll be in town the whole time, without any family around. If you want to meet up for coffee, lemme know! I'll be looking for ways to pass the time.

If you and Metroid Baby come up with a plan to get together in some other capacity, let me know and I'll show up, too. Like if you get together for lunch the day before or whatever, I'd love to join you.

I'd be up for two meetups.

A glimpse into Plutor's brain: "Is that short for leishmaniasis? What a weird handle." *click* "No, it's.. er.. short for her first name. Yeah, that makes more sense."

Heh, if there's an earlier meetup I'm pretty much obligated to come, then. I'll be all "HEY MOM! I'm gonna borrow your car tonight to hang out with some people from the internet I haven't met! See ya later!"

Anyway, I'll be around between the 21st and 27th if that works for anyone else.

Boo, hiss! I am booked solid through the end of the year. I will be there in spirit, though.

I could maybe do an earlier meetup too--I'll be in town sometime on the 25th if all goes well, and the next day is moderately flexible, though I have tentative Hanukkah plans. But I'll definitely be at Pinhook on the 31st!

Plutor--maybe I'll start telling people that's what it stands for!

I just visited the Pinhook for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Saw Tooth and Man Will Destroy Himself. Man Will... did a fantastic job in clearing the joint of yuppies.
Great place to see a show and great beer on tap. Throw in the Wusses and y'all got yerselves a partay.

I would love to do a New Years meet-up at Pinhook! I haven't made it there yet, but I've peeked through the windows a couple times. I might be game for an earlier meet-up as well, though I will be doing some kinds of family things at various times.

I'm gonna be out of town for NYE, but if there's really an earlier one in the works, I'm way into it.

I'm hosting some out of town guests and the typical bunch of Chapelboro reprobates on this end of 15-501 this 12/31. As much as I love a meet-up (and, for that matter, the Wusses), it will probably be inadvisable for me (or anyone I know) to be behind the wheel on New Year's Eve. I could be available for a second meet-up, however. In the meantime, give Dave Cantwell a hug for me and if any of you Triangle folk should find yourself in Carrboro on New Year's Eve, I'll probably be drinking scotch at OCSC with the afore-mentioned whole sick crew. If last year is any indication, I'll probably be wearing a crown and oversized sunglasses.

Yeah, I'm down for a meet-up anytime other than NYE--I'll be in NYC. I'm pissed, though, that my best bud Sleazy McQueen didn't even warn me of his gig, fucker. After Jan 11, I'm more than free for a meet-up with y'all peeps. Let's do it.

A later January meet up would be the best for me too. If it's gonna be on the weekend, I'll definitely come by after work.

Fine, fine, we can have like three meetups. NYE is a go, though--hope to see some of you there. :)
posted by leesh at 7:09 AM on December 11, 2008

Make another date and I'll try to make it. NYE is out, though.

This is stew, from yoga's account. We are at raleigh times right now. Join us!! (Impromptu!)

OK, we're no longer there! Quick two-person meetup!

Planning on being at Pinhook as I haven't missed a NYE with The Wusses yet. Got a room at the Marriot so I don't have to schlep back to Carrboro afterwards.

OK, here's a list, from what I can tell, of people planning to go to Pinhook.

Stew
Leesh
3.2.3
hydropsyche (we'll finally meet, neighbor!)
odinsdream (maybe)

Leesh is bringing a friend, and I just might, depending on whether he's around or not.

I'm in charlotte right now, but heading back later today, if anyone's up for a this-evening impromptu. I'll memail people who said they're around.

I'm trying to set up a get-together at the Federal tonight...I've memailed or emailed people.
posted by Stewriffic at 10:51 AM on December 26, 2008

I'm also in Charlotte (well, Davidson) so no meetup for me tonight. I'm still planning on being at Pinhook for New Years' Eve and lesingesavant will be with me.
posted by hydropsyche at 3:33 PM on December 26, 2008

Ah well.

So, for what it's worth, folks, I'm going to take a shower and head out to meet a couple of my friends at The Federal. I'm guessing I'll be there from 7:30-7:45 for at least a couple of hours. This is what I look like, more or less. I don't know if I'll have glasses on or not, though.
posted by Stewriffic at 4:00 PM on December 26, 2008

One of The Wusses just informed me there will be no cover. A hat will be passed.
posted by 3.2.3 at 11:15 AM on December 30, 2008

Right on.

So how should we find each other, do you think?
posted by Stewriffic at 12:21 PM on December 30, 2008

I'll have a blue scarf in my hair and a black dress on, if that helps! Plus I look like the picture in my profile. I'm planning on getting there 9:30ish, depending on when my friend gets to my apt.

If you want my cell phone number, memail me.

Mediareport suggested to me in a Memail possibility of a dinner get together before the show. I suggested The Federal. However, he doesn't get off work (in Raleigh, I presume) until 5pm. He said he'd call today to discuss. I'll post here after talking to him. It may be too late to organize at this point.
posted by 3.2.3 at 4:44 AM on December 31, 2008

Yeah, he works down the road from me. I can stop over there and see what's up. I can also call Leesh if need be. I'll be working here in Raleigh for a while today as well.

OK, I stopped over at mediareport's place of work, and he's in.

We decided to meet at 7 at the Federal.

See you all there or at Pinhook!

Sounds super cool, kids and I totally dig the Federal, but I have to pass. Put me down for a later January Meetup, por favor. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I had a show in Tempe last night and I'm flying back into RDU in this afternoon...if all flights are on time, I might be able to run into The Federal circa dessert course and say hello. Please don't wait around for me, though.

Can somebody memail me a cell number so I can call if it looks like I'm gonna make it?
posted by Ian A.T. at 10:13 AM on December 31, 2008

It looks like a combination of a cold (me) and a 6 am flight tomorrow (him) is going to keep us in tonight. {sigh}

OW STOP MAKE IT STOP STOP

Hell yeah, that was a great show. Faithful, thankfully non-ironic covers of classic 70s soft rock hits. The earnestness added an element that was actually kind of punk, but the whole show rocked hard. The stretch of 'Sister Goldenhair,' 'Lonesome Loser' and 'Brandy' had me almost out of my mind with glee.

Thanks to Leesh and Stew for putting this together, and for 3.2.3 and Stew's pal Randall for making it fun. The Wusses with Mefites were a great way to ring in the New Year. And the food at Federal was great at a good price, too. I think we have a critical mass for local MeFi dinner parties now, too. :)

Yes, that was an awesome way to ring in 2009! The Wusses rocked my world and you guys were all super fun! Happy new year!!!

Sorry we missed it. Sounds like much more fun than our house was.

Sorry I didn't make it to The Federal...my flight was cancelled in Denver, so I spent the evening--including midnight! :( --at the airport. I'm glad everyone else had a good time, and keep me in mind for future meetups.
