Chapel Hill/Carrboro Meet-up? January 11, 2009 11:42 AM   Subscribe

Anyone up for a Chapel Hill meet-up?

It's been a while since we last got together on this side of the Triangle. Anyone up for giving it a shot again in the next few weeks? As always at this time of year, basketball schedules should probably be noted ahead of time. Feelings? Thoughts?

You know me, I'm always in for these things.
For what it's worth, I'll be out of town over MLK weekend and also the last weekend of January/first of Feb. Otherwise, the best nights for me are Thurs, Fri and Sat.

I'd love to do a meetup. I probably won't even get embarrassingly drunk this time.

I'm also out of town the last weekend in January, and probably the weekend of Feb. 13th too. Thursdays are great for me. If it's a weekend, I'll definitely come, but won't be able to make it until 10:30 or 11:00.

Who's up for the Station? Tots! Yeah we need to check on b-ball schedules: Look here. A Thursday sounds good for me too.

I generally work Thursdays but with enough advance notice I could switch shifts at the store.
posted by thivaia at 6:28 PM on January 11, 2009

Quite possibly. Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays would be best for me.

I'm free any night after 6:30 or so and would love to meet up!

I'd be down for this. (No work conflicts, I just got fired!)

Yeah, I'm in...I just need a bit of advance notice.

I'm in, just let me know when. I would LOVE to do the Station, it's quite convenient for a few of us. Can I bring my sister?
posted by msali at 2:13 PM on January 13, 2009

"The Station" is Southern Rail and not Padgett Station, right?
posted by showbiz_liz at 4:34 PM on January 13, 2009

Indeed. The Station is the bar-only part beside the restaurant-- the part in the building and not in the traincars.
So it seems a Friday or Saturday works best for most? Anyone want to throw out some dates?
Also, sisters/brothers/S.O.'s/roomies/lurkers are always welcome.

Feb 6 and 20 (both Fridays) are basketball free days (those Saturdays are not). Those work for anyone?

The 6th would work for me.
posted by thivaia at 5:42 PM on January 13, 2009

I'm down for the 6th, though I can't make it early.
posted by solipsophistocracy at 8:24 PM on January 13, 2009

Yeah, that should work for me.

I'm down for the 6th, though I can't make it early.

I think some of us will stay late. Speaking of which, let's say 8:30 at The Station (at Southern Rail) on February 6th. Does that sound good?
posted by thivaia at 7:10 AM on January 14, 2009

Works for me!
posted by Stewriffic at 9:19 AM on January 14, 2009

Sounds good. Lets get another yes from the gallery and sidebar that shiz.
posted by greta simone at 1:08 PM on January 14, 2009

I'll be there.
posted by EarBucket at 2:43 PM on January 14, 2009

My booking calendar is free for the 6th, but a show could fall in my lap at the last minute. I'll (conditionally) be there!

Now let me sound like an old man: The Station's a bar, right? Okay, is it loud? I don't want to have to yell over other patrons and management's misguided idea that "loud music = more drinky."

I hope I don't come off like a grump, I just really want to meet you guys and hang out, not sit around and yell awkward questions and do improvised sign language until I finally give up and start reading the closed captioned Cheaters on one of the flat-screens.

I'm in. Bells, they're on.

Okay, you talked me into it. See you all there!

Station is about as quiet a bar as you can get, unless there's a DJ, but there won't be that early, and probably not on a Friday. There are comfy couches, and if you get there early enough you can still order food. I recommend the tots.

maybe me and my husband and little dude can go there a bit earlier for dinner and then say hi to you guys.

I didn't realize I knew who Thivaia was until just now. Hi Thivaia, you would know my face if you saw it :-)

Argh, sorry, guys, something's come up last minute and I'm not going to be able to make it. Have fun!

Um, I'm here already. Had to be in CH for something and decided not to drive back. We'll miss you, Earbucket!

Oh, shit. I'm in the wrong place, I think? Just ate. Not that anyone's going to get here anytime soon. Argh. Should have gone home between my thing here and the meetup. Come early!
posted by Stewriffic at 3:16 PM on February 6, 2009

OK, am in the right place now.

Nice to meet you all! Sorry I couldn't stay for the dramatic conclusion--kid duty in the morning. Let's do it again soon.

Pater Alethieias, sorry I missed you! Awesome meetup. Stewriffic, I lurved your necklace. We shouldn't wait so long between meetups. Solipstophacracy or whateverthehell your name is, I loved the FUCK out of your LED belt. If I were a single dude, I would be picking up chicks (or dudes, you know, whichever way I happened to sway that particular day) LEFT AND FUCKING RIGHT. CARRBORO REPRAZENT my peoples!

I'm bummed I missed the early part of the night, but glad I got to see a few of you. I think our next one should be a cookout of some sort. Maybe on a Sunday afternoon in the spring?
posted by solipsophistocracy at 8:28 AM on February 7, 2009

So there, solip. Sounds great.
posted by msali at 9:10 AM on February 7, 2009

The pictures are coming. Should be up by tonight.
posted by thivaia at 10:29 AM on February 7, 2009

Okay, photos are up, though disorganized and largely untagged. I had a great time last night. I have a large deck and would totally host a cook-out next time around. More on that this summer perhaps.
posted by thivaia at 10:32 AM on February 7, 2009

oh man - a lot of you went! I'm sorry that I was hallucinatingly tired and my husband had just gotten back from Europe an hour beforehand.
posted by pinky at 12:23 PM on February 7, 2009

Sorry I missed it, it looks like you guys had a blast. Please keep me in mind for future get-togethers!

Good times, and empirical evidence that you never really escape from Madison.

Thivaia, if you've got a deck, seems like there's a few options. Cookout.... or booze potluck.

anywayz.

Apparently I fail at meetups - I was a bit late to the station, but then couldn't figure out who the MeFites might be. Next time I'm bringing one of those airport driver signs.
posted by clerestory at 8:34 PM on February 7, 2009

clerestory, sad! Did you go to Padgett station accidentally? If not, we had a sign, but the sprawling masses on the steps leading up to the three-couch seating area may have been hiding it with their lounging.
posted by Stewriffic at 7:10 AM on February 8, 2009

So nice to meet those of you that came by! A summer pot-luck-cook-out-booze-a-thon sounds lovely! I can whip up some kickin' vegan faire. Just throwing that out there...

I made it to the right place, and looking at the photos I recognize where you guys were sitting. I should have thought to check more profile photos and/or randomly accost groups. Next time I'll be ready!

I spared everyone my snotty nose, etc..but soon, very soon, the mint will grow nigh, and it shall be mojito season.

You have been warned.
