The vote counts seem to be off on the Mefi Projects Archive page.

It's part of our new Everybody Is A Winner initiative. Each project gets 2 votes and a trophy that says "good job!"

That or, yeah, there's a bug. Probably the bug thing.

What's the point of the votes, by the way? Is it just a front-page sign to show how popular a particular project is? Or is it when a project gets x number of votes, it gets a free pass to the Metafilter front page?

It's to make the poster feel like a loser.

To answer my own question, I read here that;

"The votes are an indicator of how much the membership likes your project, in the off chance it doesn't become a post, you'll at least know if it struck a chord with anyone."

Which is all very well and good, I suppose, but wouldn't it be cooler if the votes actually had some tangible result beyond simply being an indicator of how much the community likes your project? Such as, just as an example, 20 or 25 votes = an automatic link in the sidebar if it hasn't yet been turned into a MeFi post by someone? 50 votes = a gold star next to your name for a month?

Automatic anything sounds like a bad idea.

It dosen't need to be automatic, or anything I suggested. I'm just advocating a change where votes have a tangible purpose beyond being simply an indication of how popular someones project is if it dosen't get posted to the blue.
