York Beach redux?

From all accounts, last year's meetup in York Beach, ME was a blast. Is there any interest in another one?

Man, you gotta give it longer than three hours!

I would definitely be interested if I can find a way up there (last year initapplette was kind enough to drive me from Boston!). I actually still have the tickets I won from skee ball at the arcade in my desk drawer. :-)

I'd probably come if you can put it together.

I'm a joiner :)

Hey, I'm excited!

I'd be happy to cart folks from Boston. I can fit 3, 4 for the extra friendly kind.

What date would this be around? I'm very interested, and in dire need of skeeballing technique coaching, since I have my eye on the top shelf of prizes. (Decisions, decisions... A dual cassette recorder or a huge teddy bear? ... I'd be able to tape my friend's Zeppelin bootlegs, but I wouldn't be able to snuggle up to them at night ...)

I was thinking somewhere around mid to late August (I can't do the first weekend in August).

I'm out in the Shoals for the summer and would try to come.

Heck, if folks wanted to come out here, that would be fun, too. The internet DOES reach this far off the coast ;)

I've always wanted to visit the Isle of Shoals.

So, cool, I can make it. Yay!

Hey! Awesome.

For starters, a lot of the audience for that meetup is planning to attend the MeFi 10th meetup in Portland on the 19th. So, ideas: it's possible to start the day at the beach in York, and migrate up to Portland for the 4:00 meetup. If that sounds interesting.

Barring that, summer seems startlingly full already. I might be able to meet up Aug. 1 or 16, but that's (sadly) about it for my weekends.

Weeknights are great. I often go out to York after work and catch some evening rays and sometimes a swim, and then the skee ball/candlepin palace is open until at least 10, and there are good eateries and bars close by.

But the easiest thing might be skeeballing/swimming on the day of the 19th, and then caravaning to Portland for the evening meetup.

I'm game for whatever date the hivemind chooses as Miko and I are essentially the same person in matters like these. (It's been scientifically-proven and tested.)

I tend to think I would be in rather than out, but it depends greatly on the date. Later (much later) in August is better.

I can't make it on the 19th during the day (I have to sleep sometime), but I would be interested in going in august.

Any weekend post 8/1 Works for me. I could even do that last week of July, but that's it.

I would like to go, and will see how August shapes up, then!

Why are skeeballs made of wood?

Neat! Are you a Pelican on Star or staying out on Appledore?

Back when I stayed on Star Island every summer the only means of communication we had with the outside world, besides the ferry, was a radio telephone link to Portsmouth. This was over 25 years ago. I can't imagine going back with cellphones, laptops, etc.

And oddly enough, York Beach was where we'd always go after our stay on Star. If a meetup happens on a weekend in August and we're not super busy here, I'm totally in. For the Goldenrod!

I'm a volunteer and contractor on Star, formerly senior staff...I know the words to the Pel Encore so maybe I could count as an honorary Pelican :)

The computer system is well-hidden and cell phones & laptops are still pretty much verboten for conferees, but we do have an incredibly good antenna between the island and the mainland that gets us broadband and a VOIP phone system now.

you will come back...you will come back...

Mmm, Goldenrod.

Why are skeeballs made of wood?

Honestly, I think it's because they're repurposed candlepin bowling balls. When I write my book on Skee-Ball I'll be sure to find out how accurate that is.

Oh my god would I ever read that book.

I am so going to organize a Lanes 'n' Games meetup in the near future.

That sounds great, not_on_display.

I love Lanes & Games, but I think their slogan could probably be "It just looks like it's been condemned!"
