You can't stop us, you can only hope to contain us. MeFiChi, back to the goat! October 5, 2009 9:19 AM   Subscribe

MeFiChi: The last thoughts of the flowerpot's liver were "Oh no, not again." Regular Wednesday Meetup Time.

Cortex help us all. With Kaz, AdamD in, it's probably for real. The Billy Goat, under Michigan Avenue, 6PM, October 7th, 2009 (which is the normal Wednesday, in the normal Place, with the normal beer.)

Where we go from here is unknown, and according to quantum mechanics, unknowable.

I swear, I should go back to posting about NASA.

I honestly thought this was some kind of new Chi version of MeFi - some kind of cool, slow motion composing and posting in synchronized groups.

Yes, I will be there, for those of you who require this information to either party with or avoid me.

You are putting Wisconsinites to shame what with all your beer drinking.
posted by desjardins at 12:19 PM on October 5, 2009

I expect to be there.

Maybe if you ask me nicely.

I'm borderline, because I apparently have taken ill. If I feel better, I'll be there for a bit, but no Cafe Bong at 2AM for me, will have flight next morning.
posted by eriko at 5:13 PM on October 5, 2009

Dammit, what happened to us? Cortex and I are sick, too.
posted by eamondaly at 5:21 PM on October 5, 2009

What the hell? I was about to post that I'm coming to the meetup if I feel better by Wednesday. Now I'm desperately trying to come up with some sort of clever "-itis" to name this malady.
posted by burnfirewalls at 6:22 PM on October 5, 2009

Hmm, cittehkitteh reported some ill feelings today, but I feel about as fine as I ever do.
posted by adamdschneider at 6:22 PM on October 5, 2009

If everyone is sick, maybe it'd be wise to push it back to next week? Or is that a bit of beam-crossing right there?
posted by Windigo at 7:43 PM on October 5, 2009

I feel fine. You can use my immune blood to help find the cure.
posted by Green With You at 7:59 PM on October 5, 2009

I am not ill and I am not available next wednesday. But, as always, I defer to the hard-core drinkers.

I'm drinkin' and having a borger come hell or high water.

Excellent! I was bummed about having to work this past weekend, but I should be able to make it tomorrow.
posted by HumuloneRanger at 10:01 PM on October 5, 2009

Uh, Wednesday. Although that's technically tomorrow. Gods, I should go to bed.
posted by HumuloneRanger at 10:03 PM on October 5, 2009

We all caught a case of acute blasphemitis, is my guess.
posted by cortex (staff) at 7:22 AM on October 6, 2009

I feel fine *and* I got my flu shot yesterday. Bring it on!

I would like to inquire as to how it came to be that I am mentioned in this post as committed to this event. I only remember shrugging when the idea was brought up on Saturday. And I'm still not sure if I'm coming or not.
posted by misskaz at 10:42 AM on October 6, 2009

Blame this guy.
posted by eriko at 11:04 AM on October 6, 2009

Hmm, I think that's my fault. I mention in the previous thread that you "apparently made the motion" for it. I was told this by someone else, though I can't recall who. Bad intel?
posted by adamdschneider at 11:04 AM on October 6, 2009

For what it's worth, I still feel pretty assy but feel like I'm a few asses lower on the General Assness Index this afternoon. Aggressive but short-lived headcold vector, maybe? Anybody's ass-slope stayed on the upward side of the zero axis for more than a couple days with this?
posted by cortex (staff) at 2:57 PM on October 6, 2009

Ha, I KNEW y'all got me sick! Actual conversation I had the other day:

JULIET BANANA: My head weighs about ten times more than it does normally.

SICK ROOMMATE: Shit, I was trying not to cough all over everything. I'm sorry I got you sick.

JULIET BANANA: Aw, I've been taking public transportation and hanging out with 20 strangers all weekend. If anyone got me sick, it was them.

So, yeah, officially blaming eamondaly, cortex, burnfirewalls, cittehkitteh, eriko, and wcitymike. I will not make it tomorrow but am already looking forward to next month. If we move it a week I'll probably make it, but I am pretty sure no matter what Adam is going to be drinking tomorrow,.

Tomorrow?
posted by adamdschneider at 3:22 PM on October 6, 2009

Cortex, I expect to see a infographic visualization of the ass axis. I want my line on the graph to be hot pink. And right now it it pretty deep into butt territory.
posted by Juliet Banana at 4:27 PM on October 6, 2009

If people want to do next Wednesday, I will make myself available then as well.
posted by adamdschneider at 8:23 PM on October 6, 2009

I would blame the sock monkey, if it were me. My gramma always told me they were filthy animals, rife with disease.
posted by Windigo at 6:35 AM on October 7, 2009

Unfortunately, cittehkitteh has taken a turn for the worse, so I'm afraid I'll be staying home to play nursemaid tonight. Next Wednesday?
posted by adamdschneider at 6:58 AM on October 7, 2009

Waited to see how I'd be doing today before I responded. I'm feeling better, but I want this infection to 1. wither and 2. die without chance of spreading further, so if there is still a meetup tonight I'll be absent.

Next Wednesday, however, this fuzzpox from the sock monkey should be gone, so I can make it then.
posted by burnfirewalls at 7:11 AM on October 7, 2009

I won't be there tonight, either, I'm afraid.
posted by Windigo at 7:12 AM on October 7, 2009

I am taking this as "no-one will be at the Goat tonight" in flaming letters on the hill. So, I guess I won't be there, either.

So I guess you really can stop us. Bummer.

The Great Cortex Contagion of 2009 completely knocked me on my ass for three days, for the official record. Today is my first day back at work and I'm 80% at best.

I'm glad I checked the thread! I'll try to be there on the 14th. On Saturday the steak burger was especially good. I want more!

I am afraid for SpiffyRob. He didn't even reply to my drunken memail threatening to kick him in the junk.
posted by adamdschneider at 10:55 AM on October 7, 2009

The GCC/2009 hit me about the same -- was a waste Sun-Tuesday. Did work some Tuesday, but I work from home most days, and lord, it wasn't much work. Today, about 70%.

Whatever this was, it hit fast and hard -- I can't see this many getting sick from different sources, all manifesting on Sunday, so infection was, at the possible earliest, 8:30PM Friday, and I was seriously crap by 8AM Sunday -- somewhere in the 24-36 hour range between infection and full symptoms.
posted by eriko at 10:57 AM on October 7, 2009

Oink.
posted by burnfirewalls at 11:34 AM on October 7, 2009

'Til the 14th, then. Feel better, everyone!

I am afraid for SpiffyRob.

Crush, Desjardins, and Windigo all seem to be fine; they were only with us on Friday, which suggests that GCC struck on Saturday. Rob was Friday-only as well, so I think he'll be okay. [Knocks wood regardless.]
posted by Iridic at 12:45 PM on October 7, 2009

I was also there for brunch Saturday, so I blame the Goat. Or anything south of Andersonville.
posted by Windigo at 2:11 PM on October 7, 2009

FWIW, me and mr. desjardins have been feeling fine, so I don't think it was Friday night.
posted by desjardins at 3:00 PM on October 7, 2009

I seem to be fine: (knocks on wood). Were all you sick folks out in the rain at the Pier?
posted by pjern at 3:29 PM on October 7, 2009

I'm fine so it looks like you guys all had way too much fun on Saturday.
posted by Bunglegirl at 4:26 PM on October 7, 2009

Does that mean I didn't have enough fun? :(
posted by adamdschneider at 4:38 PM on October 7, 2009

I know I did not have enough fun. But then I'm only allowed so much fun in a month.
posted by crush-onastick at 5:07 PM on October 7, 2009

Hi, uh, I attempted to meet up with you guys on Friday night (this would have been my first meetup.) Unfortunately I think I walked (to put it charitably) out of the Bong like fifteen minutes before you all arrived. And I've been sick this week. So...maybe it was the Bong? Although that would contradict what others have said.

A bunch of internet junkies spend an entire weekend sharing personal space, alcohol, and possibly bodily fluids. Multiple people now report their GAI to be higher than normal. Differential diagnosis: Go!

Also I will be there Wednesday because I have to buy Eamon tiny beers because I put his things in the fridge and then forgot to get them out because I am foolish.
posted by lholladay at 8:56 AM on October 8, 2009

Tiny beers?

Crush, Desjardins, and Windigo all seem to be fine; they were only with us on Friday

Yeah another data point, I was Friday-only and did not get sick.

Let's be fair to the sock monkey, here. We might all be sick, but DJ Bananapants swears he feels as healthy as a sailor.

I was in for everything except Fireside and Navy Pier and did not get sick.
posted by misskaz at 6:53 AM on October 10, 2009

I made a Mug at Zazzle to commemorate the last meetup: if I could afford to, I'd make you all one for being so awesome.
posted by pjern at 8:23 PM on October 10, 2009

I wasn't sick, but now I seem to have caught whatever Maria had, but for the moment it's just throat tickling and coughing.
posted by adamdschneider at 8:25 PM on October 10, 2009

14th? Yes!
posted by asuprenant at 11:39 AM on October 11, 2009

I should be in attendance. And lholladay, you don't owe me beers, tiny or otherwise. I was just giving you grief.

Also, presented without comment: Night of the Stripping Dead.
posted by eamondaly at 11:35 AM on October 13, 2009

Faaahhhkkkkk. I didn't check my prior obligations with my social secretary. I won't be able to make the meetup. Somebody have a beer for me.
posted by burnfirewalls at 1:09 PM on October 13, 2009

I get off work (in the Loop) at 4:30, so even with a stop at the bookstore on my way, I'll probably be there around 5:30.

Obviously I am not there. I started work this week which has left me more bitchy than I'd like to admit, and I think I'm going to die if I eat one more of those gelatinous ultrasalty orange-greased grilled cheeses. Call me when you start having meetups at a place with normal-people sized beer and vegetarian food that doesn't suck.

Whoa, there. Like I said, bitchy and tired and STILL SICK. That is my excuse. I'll be at the next one all sunshine and stuffed monkies again, I am sure.
posted by Juliet Banana at 4:28 PM on October 14, 2009

I'm such a procrastinator that I didn't get around to being sick until Friday. I'm still fighting it off, so no Goat/Zombie Strippers for me tonight.
