I'll be in Asheville, NC from 11-7 to 11-11 and Charleston, SC from 11-15 to 11-19.
I'll be at Stewriffic's party too, but I'd like to also get together with those who won 't be able to make that.

Oh, and if you need a free place to stay while in Asheville, my girlfriend and I have an awesome downtown apartment with an airbed. Just in case.

Sounds good to me. My current favorite downtown hangs are my apartment (it's across the street and one block down from the Orange Peel) where we could enjoy a homemade dinner and wine (we are into cooking these days) and then maybe scoot over to the Chocolate Lounge (my sister and girlfriend work there, and it has a very chill atmosphere with an upstairs we could take over, Beer and Wine, and amazing chocolate and other desserts) and end up somewhere else, perhaps BoBo Gallery.
Mostly, I am up for any of the cooler downtown hangouts, but I'd definitely love to host and cook you all a meal you won't forget.

I'm new enough around mefi that I'd feel a bit the intruder including myself in anything. But, brujita, if you want to know where to go hiking around here, let me know.
By the way, do any of you locals know what the new (at least, I think it's new)place is on the corner of Haywood and Sandhill in W. Asheville?

If you are looking for great restaurant in West Asheville, try West End Bakery (the coffee is bad, the bread is excellent, the food is pretty good, and most of it is local) or Sunny Point (one of my favorites in the whole city, everything on the menu is excellent, get there early for breakfast or brunch, order the MegaMosa, and get the Huevos Rancheros) instead of the UJ. Not worth your time or money.

I'd love to attend an Asheville meetup- I'm just over the mountains in TN and I love any excuse to get over there. It'd be my first meetup too!

Lazaruslong, thanks for the offer but I'll be staying at a place on Tunnel Rd. I think mid-evening 11-7 will work; I'm coming in from Charlotte that day and will have seen something there (haven't decided yet).

So it looks like Saturday, November 11th will work out for brujita and hopefully most others as well. Shall we say 6:30 pm (I'm hoping that qualifies as mid-evening) at my place? We can eat promptly at 7:00 and then venture downtown for further entertainment. Being situated in the heart of downtown, it will be an easy thing to decide on a place to everyone's liking and then stroll over.

I'm prone to bronchitis---and the flu hit me hard last summer---so I would prefer someplace with a nonsmoking section when we go downtown (I know, heresy in a tobacco state! ;-) )

That's not a problem. It's a tobacco state, but it's liberal hippy Asheville. The vast majority of bars are non-smoking, possibly with an optional outside smoking area. I personally do smoke rollies, but am quite accustomed to not smoking at my seat, and taking a stroll outside instead. So no worries on that account.
I will send out another reminder not closer to the date. Looks like a good number of attendees so far, really looking forward to it!
