Vermont / NE New Enland Meetup January 4, 2010 4:43 AM   Subscribe

In honor of little e and Kattullus' visit to the Vermont there will be a meetup on January 15.

The guests will arrive in the area late Friday afternoon, so start time is around 6 or 7 p.m. There has been some behind-the-scenes discussion on locations in the Randolph area, but if we have enough interest from our northern neighbors perhaps we can meet in Montpelier. Discuss...

I'm in for wherever. Yay!

Oooohhh. This is highly enticing.

Miko, if you and LT want to crash at my place over the weekend, I'll be heading down to Boston on Saturday sometime.
posted by jessamyn (staff) at 7:01 AM on January 4, 2010

That's a fun idea. I'll check on the feasibility before confirming but would love to have that as the hoped-for plan! Thanks jessamyn.

Ha, a New England meetup scheduled for when I'll be in the Mid-West. Have fun, y'all!

I might can be there if it doesn't snow or something.

Ah, bummer, I'll be in Hanover through the 12th, so will just miss everyone. Have fun!

7,483. To meetup we bring a boiled bright red and soiled slight led.

I'll be in NYC that weekend, returning to East Thetford on the following Tuesday. So sad. But let me know about the next meetup!

I'll be in Korea until mid-February and anyways do not live in New England so I am sad to say I will have to give my surreal brother and sister a pass this time.

Perhaps the two of you could get yourselves over to Amsterdam in mid February? The lobster will be on me (lightly staining my lederhosen, alas).
posted by Meatbomb at 1:37 PM on January 4, 2010

Thanks for reminding me! I had forgotten I was gonna move the lobster/lederhosen. It's been moved here.

Sounds fun! I'll try and be there. Let me know if we're meeting in Randolph or Montpelier - we'll be coming from Burlington.

I'm in like leds on lobbies got stains, Sajak!

What my associate is saying is that he will also be attending the meetup.

Ahem. Yes, I apologize for that outburst. I would be delighted and thrilled to attend your meeting. Meet-up.

Yay, not_on_display is coming to the meetup!

Shazbot. I'll be in Boston- somehow the first time I've been out of the state since June? Have fun!

Was thinking of just hosting a get-together at my place and maybe doing take-out pizza and beer. Would anyone object to that? I don't have pets, my place is small but cozy, and then we wouldn't have to worry about parking or timing. I live in Randolph and it's a nice in-between-y place between terrapin and the people further out in Burlington/Montpelier. If that works we can aim for maybe 7-11 or something? I'll supply basic food and some beer, people can BYO side dishes, snacks, desserts or whatever else?

Aaaaand one of my students just gave me a coupon for 20% off the bill at Cockadoodle which just strengthens my resolve that this is The Way to Go. So unless anyone has any objections....?

That sounds like a great idea. I'm all for it. Yay!
posted by Kattullus at 2:58 PM on January 6, 2010

Which is, I'll get pizzas or something and we'll go to my place. Sorry if I'm getting confusing.
posted by jessamyn (staff) at 3:08 PM on January 6, 2010

Sounds good to me! I'll bring baked goods.

Ooh, I really wanna come, but I may not know for sure until the day before.

My New York plans fell through. Now I have to see how the Upper Valley plans pan out, but I might attend as well.

As much as I do not want my flight to be cancelled due to the blizzard I'm currently making my way through, if it is, I will probably reschedule for next weekend, which would put me in the area for this.

So, cross your fingers. Or don't. I'm not sure?

SpiffyRob and I are meeting for coffee tomorrow in Hanover. What he doesn't know is my plan to kidnap him and bring him to the meetup.
posted by terrapin at 11:17 AM on January 7, 2010

Oooh we should contact the artist formerly known as cashman who is in Hanover now too!

Alas, SpiffyRob was too fast for me and we couldn't kidnap him. But turtlegirl and I had a lovely coffee break with him.
posted by terrapin at 2:07 PM on January 8, 2010

I credit my escape to my quick first step and the layer of grease I coated myself with prior to my arrival. But yes! Wonderful coffee break, and I will definitely plan a trip back to the area around an upcoming meetup.

Sounds great jessamyn! And for those of us who haven't been there before - can we get directions? Thanks! I'm going to try my best to be there!
posted by garnetgirl at 6:38 PM on January 8, 2010

Yay! I'll be there too, just for the record. Thanks for hosting, Jessamyn.

Thanks for setting this up, terrapin & turtlegirl. If it's not another one of those 33” of snow weekends, I should be there.

I am potentially in, but will need pet-free crash space.

We (me/wife/teenager) are way off at the very western edge of VT/NE New England, 7 miles south of Burlington, a few hundred yards east of the big lake. If anyone coming in from say, Detroit, or Montreal needs a place to stay about 70 miles NW of the meetup, let me know.

Actually, for some reason the three of us now live in a 5-bedroom suburban ranch house. If you're coming to the Burlington area for any reason and need shelter outside town, we've probably got room for you. We are pet-free, smoke-free... and support freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. (We do occasionally have nuts, gluten, and dairy roaming around the place, but can cage them if so you desire.)

If that works we can aim for maybe 7-11 or something?

I actually would love to see a MeFi meetup that takes place in a 7-11. But I suppose Jessamyn's place will be even better.

...besides, there's only a Cumby's nearby. It is a 24-hour Cumby's though!

Being near Jessamyn's place isn't a guarantee, the Capital will be warm because of my absence.
posted by Mblue at 5:23 AM on January 15, 2010

Looks like we won't make this one. I hate to miss this illustrious MeFite gathering, but we are in the midst of trying to find a new apartment and have appointments on Saturday. So we'd get to VT at like 9 PM, and then have to turn around early in the AM, which causes an unfavorable fun:stress ratio.

I do hope we can get together in Northern New England again sometime soon.
posted by Miko at 6:42 AM on January 15, 2010

aww sorry to miss you Miko!

For everyone else, plan is still the same: get to my house 7-ish. I'll have a few [veg and non-veg] pizzas and a little bit of beer and some cookies. Feel free to bring more or not as you see fit. My place is small but cozy. Please try not to park my landladies in [in the garage and in the driveway]. My phone number is 508-415-9074. Call or email if you need directions or any more information. Hooray!

I'm not going to be able to make it due to the universe's general lack of cooperation.

(Though, I did have a dream last night that I went, but wound up taking the long route through Wisconsin because my cat gave me the wrong directions. In the end, though my cat and I bickered the whole way, it was a fun meetup. There was Whale Pizza. I'm still not entirely sure what that is, but the pizza told me that it was tasty, so I'm inclined to believe it.)

I'll be bringing a six-pack of ale, Old Yankee. If I'd read Cat Pie Hurts' comment before I would've picked up some Whale Tale Pale Ale.

Kattullus: I enjoyed the Old Yankee. Had a maple syrup flavour to it.

Thanks for having us over, jessamyn. We had a blast!

We're gonna hold you and not_on_display to coming over to play video games.

Nice to meet everybody, super awesome fun! VT is wonderful. Thanks again to terrapin and turtlegirl for letting us crash.

We're still planning to host some sort of summer meetup at Terrapin Gardens Farm.

If I still reside on this coast come summer, I will so roadtrip up for this. Camping shindigs are my favorite. (I promise not to set anything on fire that's not supposed to be on fire.)

Yessssss... if nothing keeps me from coming up I'll so be there.

As long as you have a special gaming chair, terrapin, and my favorite pineapple hotdogs, and a map of the woods behind your farm... Well, even without those things, I'd love to play some vids over there some time.

Had a fun time, and it was great to meet new people!
