Do threads with new comments show up under "recent comments" however old the thread? (inside)

Today I posted a comment concerning a new development in a news thread that was posted to the front page two weeks ago, but it didn't seem to show up in recent comments. It was the kind of news item that definitely belonged in the old thread, not on the front page, but there's not much point in posting it if the thread is "dead".

I have the recent comments only reach back as many days as you show in your personal display settings. I didn't want it to search all the way back in time because it would be extra work to check all 15,000 links for a new comment.

In other news, I'm planning to close off new links on all threads older than one month, and start rendering those archived threads as static files, to save on the database.

duh. nevermind, I see that it is based on when the last comment was made, not when the post was first made.
