Let's twist again, like we did last summer... May 10, 2010 10:01 PM Subscribe
I need a complicated project to get me out of my rut, so what do you say, New York, who wants to throw a "Mefi Turns 11 Party?" The way I see it, we only need a few simple things...
We would need:
1. A place
2. Much booze and at least some food
3. Groovy music and sweaty dancers.
4. Ice. Bags and buckets and barrels of ice. Coolers and cartons and catch-basins of ice. Chunks of ice and cubes of ice. Shaved ice, chipped ice, block ice, sculptures of ice might be nice. Ice; boxes of ice, big honking boxes of ice, maybe some iceballs or ice sticks? I can make 'em in the freezer. We will need ice.
I'm thinking the second to last weekend in July, or the first weekend in August. If we can't find a good place, the bar on my block can be had cheap, though if we have the kind of turn-out we had last year we might overwhelm it, and they might run out of ice. Anyone want to get together and do this and make it a yearly summer thing?

Depending on where in NYC, I'd be interested in going. Train and subway fair from NJ is expensive for me though, si a riund trip from and into NYC is already looking around 30 bucks.

Yay! I have a liter of Stoli from Mexican duty-free if that would help.

I would hitch hike to NYC to hang out with you guys. Or just keep my eyes open for super cheap airfares. (luckily I have friends who live there, so I wouldn't have to think about sleeping in a dumpster.)
Let's do it!

At the moment I'm down, but I have to wait and see what my summer class schedule is to be sure.

I was very sad to miss it last year due to a family visit at the last moment, so hopefully I could finally make a meet up.

Yae-yuh! I'll be there! We'll have to find somewhere that can store enough ice, and we'll have to bring some extra ice to keep all that ice cold.
How do people feel about flavored ice?

I will live in NYC then! Yay! My only ice advice involves my usual summer drunk solution: rent a Slushie/Icee machine and lots of vodka

I'm not sure if renting vodka is a good idea, Juicy Avenger.

It's a well-known fact that you can't buy beer; one only rents it. Not sure about vodka, though.

This sounds like fun. I need to have some fun. I shall endeavor to attend. I like margarita jello shots - lime jello, tequila, and some mandarin oranges, if you wanna go classy. ice keeps them jiggly, so maybe you could get some ice?

All right okay, now we are getting somewhere. Based on what we did last year, the booze and ice parts will be easy, depending on how elaborate we want to get. Last year we got real lucky with the space, and I doubt we'll wander into that kind of good fortune again. But I have an idea or three I'm going to check out. In the meantime, if anyone has a big backyard or a massive loft or a defunct ferry boat sitting in Newton Creek or anything like that, sing out. Also, fuq, you still have that portable sound system? Anyone got a band and want to do a set? Brainstrom away hivemind.

Beware of dumpster divers in that case.
Last year was fun. I'd be down for something.
