Take Me Out to the Ball Game! May 30, 2010 11:31 AM Subscribe
Hey New York City, let's go to a Brooklyn Cyclones game on Saturday, July 10th.
Some of us were talking last night about how fun it would be, so I'm putting it together:
Proposed Date: Saturday, July 10th at 6 p.m. (Cyclones vs. State College Spikes). There are fireworks scheduled for after the game.
Tickets: We can get a discount price of $13 a ticket for Field Box Seats (the best they have) with a group of 20+- and we'd get to see our names on the scoreboard and each get a free Cyclones hat! I'm willing to put down the 25% deposit and facilitate ticket buying- the balance would be due three weeks before the game, so everyone could Paypal me to reserve their tickets. Bring your children, bring your friends.
Are you up for it?

I have been corrected:
ps AAA ballplayers are fucking good; better than you can possibly imagine >:(
a game of mefites vs the worst aaa players would literally result in a score of hundreds - 0

While this is true, the Cyclones are not AAA but Short-Season A, which is far down the totem pole. They'd still kick the asses of the MeFi Beanplaters, though.

But could the Beanplaters beat the Beaneaters? Either way it'd be a gas.

I'd be happy to meet people at Coney Island, and will certainly come say hi before or after the game, but crowds, spectator sports, and bright sunlight are basically my three worst enemies.
I can deal with two of those if doing so gets me pistachio soft-serve and rides that go upside-down.

hermitosis, I adore you on- and offline, but let us know what meetup circumstances are completely to your liking. That said, I will skip out on the most boring inning and risk my life to ride on The Cyclone with you.

Anyone have any idea how much stress I'd be in for if I tried driving to Coney Island from Central Jersey? According to Google it's only an hour and eleven minutes from where I live, but I've never been there.

That's pretty much entirely dependent on 95 and the Verrazano. Maybe click on the Google Maps traffic around the same time the weekend before and see what the guesstimate is?

We are in! I have put down the 25% deposit on our block of 20 Field Box tickets in section 15, rows N and O for the Saturday, July 10 game at 6 p.m. Post-game fireworks are scheduled, along with a number of other promos ("Bellies & Baseball: A Salute to Pregnancy"). Everyone who comes get a free hat, and they're gonna welcome our group on the scoreboard (Welcome, Metafilter.com!). The rest of the balance is due June 19th. To reserve your tickets, please get me $13 per ticket ($3 savings). I accept Paypal at the address in my profile, and will at this point take checks, if anyone other than me still writes checks. Bring your friends! Bring your childrens! It's going to be a fun day.

Speaking of the Cyclone: I rode it last week and was first in line as it opened, allowing me to finally get the front car. The ride itself is scary enough in the middle, but the front is shit-your-pants terrifying.

Ok, here's the plan for the July 10th Coney Island Day:
2:00 p.m. at Nathan's for some delicious treats.
Ticket pickup for the Cyclones game between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m. outside the boardwalk entrance to the park. Game starts at 6. If you come late and make me leave the game to give you your tickets, I will be crabby.
I still have a few tickets available, if anyone wants in. We're sitting in section 17, rows H, I, and J, if anyone wants to buy tickets separately and join us.
