I'm extremely PISSED March 8, 2002 10:49 AM Subscribe
For the record - I'm extremely PISSED that BloggerPro has been down for over 12 hours now without warning. It didn't bother me when I was a freeloader, but now that I've payed for it am I alone in wanting a little bit more than I'm getting from Pyra?
I just want needed to vent...

I was considering recommending Blogger Pro to a client, but I definitely won't now. (This isn't just because of this hopefully one-time occurance; I've had reservations about Blogger's security and uptime for a while.)

A lot folk around here (including myself) have advocated a MeFi pro version, for pay of course. Are we seeing the future?

Huh. I didn't notice, and I'm a pro. Pro Blogger that is. Not the other kind.

To be fair, outages happen.
Perhaps Blogger just needs to do what LJ does when we have these problems -- give paid users a URL they can go to where they can choose to receive a credit to their account in order to make up for service outages.

Pardon my hiccup... or should I say MeFi's.
Never had that problem before on MeFi:

Hijinx beat me, but: I'm not sure this is not the place to lodge your complaints against Blogger, Rev. At least not in the way this was posted.
I'm assuming you did send a note to Evan(do they have a support team?), seeing as the Blogger boards are down.

Eh! This has been discussed before and that is the reason I brought it up here. There is nowhere else that I can get such a diverse viewpoint. My apologies if you are offended...

Last year I had a (free, mind you, but there were paying users too) community for some old friends set up at communityzero.com. Several months ago they said they'd back in 24 hours or so - a major upgrade to functionality and useability was about to happen.
Four weeks later, the were up and running again. With the same product. I assume they lost most if not all of their paying customers - I think those folks were back online with the upgrade in only three weeks or so....

Not offended at all. I just think that the wording was maybe...suboptimal. Blogger's "record" isn't maintained here, and I find it a little backhanded that the place is sometimes used as the Blogger bitch-board, particularly since it's well known that Evan comes by.
I know very little about Blogger/Pro. When I was shopping for a system, I saw it was run on someone else's machine and kept right on walking. I'm of the attitude that if you accept such an arrangement, you implicitly accept that outages—ideally rare—will happen, and eat it when they do. I'm assuming the service claims with Pro were that uptime would be better, not 100%. Has this been happening a lot since the Pro service was offered? It sometimes amazes me the thing runs with any reliability at all, considering the user base, same as LiveJournal. I know a few people who simply don't even try to use LJ pages during particular hours. They just don't work.
My main reason for asking is that it seems most other people, and we know there are lots here who also use Blogger, appear to have found it a non-event.

I don't think this is too big a deal. It might put me off a little but the fact they want a year's money up-front is mainly what puts me off. How do I know they won't be bust in a year? It's just like domain companies who try to sell you domains valid for 10 years under their registry.. you'd have to be NUTS to pay! Of course, $35 isn't such a big deal ;-)
