Organizing a D.C./mid-atlantic MeFi gathering, part two. (more inside)
Since I'd be travelling 2 hours, I'd much rather have an option that wasn't reliant upon the weather. Plus I'm much more of a cave-dweller dark dingey bar type person as well.

I may be in the DC area in the near future, and would also vote for the troglodyte option, but not very loudly, since I also may not be in the DC area in the near future.

Every Friday night, a group of DC-area blogger types, many of whom are also MetaFilterians, gathers at Atomic Billiards in Cleveland Park (a suitably subterranean location), mere steps away from the Metro. All are welcome. I don't say this as an alternative to a MetaFilter-only gathering, just as an addendum.

I'd like to have a MeFi-only event, if possible. I think we have enough people interested. I agree that maybe an outdoors thing might be bad, but a day thing sounds cool, instead of or in addition to a night of drinking at the bars. I received a couple e-mails from the last time we tried to get something together and again, I wouldn't mind setting up an e-mail list.

i'd be up for anywhere that will allow me in (i'm under 21, and i'm not sure what DC's laws are for allowing younguns in without serving them). but if they let me in, i'd be totally down with a bar.

If I may suggest, as a Philadelphian who knows the beltway well enough... How about something OUTSIDE of the city proper? Parking, driving, etc. in DC can be a serious bitch, and there are plenty of choices on the right side of the beltway that may be a little less insane.

The bar in Cleveland Park does card, Pikachulolita. And I don't think the place would be well-suited to a MeFi event anyways.

I really like the Rock Creek idea -- though I am so bummed the gathering's happening after I've already moved from DC!

As another Philadelphian, can I suggest something about two hours outside of DC, like in Philadelphia?

I'm planning on attending the weekly Atomic Billiards gathering tonight. If anyone is interested, email me, and I'll give you my description.

We could plan to meet on the mall, and in case of rain we'd split into affinity groups and hit the various free museums.

Rock Creek Park is more metro accessible than Great Falls, however, so that is my suggestion. picnic groves can be reserved on a first come first serve basis (i think they can usually be reserved with about a month's notice.) ... the bad thing is they have to be reserved in person downtown ... is 3149 16th Street, NW convenient for anyone to stop by during work hours?
late afternoon, early evening on a saturday seems right to me. of course, anywhere anytime would be cool to me too.
