Yoar tags are making me a little uncomfortable -- can I get some air?

Whew. That's better. OK, just one moar hug.

Happy 2013 MeFi. Thanks for keeping me entertained.

Also yay to mods, and contributors of many, many great posts and comments for making MetaFilter (IMHO) most fun and satisfying online thing since the 1990s. The quality of the writing on here is most splendid (UK) / awesome (US).

I imagine a human-spider hybrid would be good at hugging. Perhaps enough to have you overlook the whole "silk coming out of the ass" business.

Thanks for all you do, mods, especially during an election year what with the 20,000+ comment threads and all that. Hugs for all!

As for what we want in 2013, I would like to see more threads with live commentary of things landing on other planets. I realize there aren't any planetary landings coming up next year but I don't think that should stop us.

I want more Ask relationship questions that are really detailed and take paragraphs and paragraphs to get through, because one of my favorite things is trying to think like a therapist and then discussing the case with my best friend (also a MeFite) about how we would approach said problem in our lives.

As per anicent metafilter holiday tradition i am in an airport for the hugging and smiling end of year MeTas.

Both mr. hippybear and I, living on other ends of the continent, recorded Love Actually when it came on the premiums this past week in our separate media spheres. It's a favorite movie of ours, but we'd never admit to it publicly.

And it's a bit like being in an airport for hugging and smiling...

Hooooray! Hugs for everyone!

See, this is exactly why I started worshiping The Kraken, beyond being an eternal malevolent force of unimaginable darkness from the crushing icy nightmare depths, it's also very big on hugs.

Of course, generally those hugs are followed by merciless devouring, but hey, IT ALL STARTS WITH HUGS!

And I really think, at the end of the day, that's what people should take away from the encounter.

I would just like to say that this year MeFi has made me say "Holy crap!" when I was reading it out in the wild (and not, low under my breath, either). Next year, I'm hoping for a "Holy crap!" AND a "Jumpin' Jehosephat!"

I will settle for a "Great Balls of Fire!" or - in a pinch - "My stars and garters!" instead of the upwardly mobile judge/king.

I have begun saying JINKIES! somewhat ironically and it is of course turning into a Real Thing That I Say Now. Sigh.

I will give you guys hugs but only if I can pound on your back while I'm doing it so we're just hitting each other not showing actual sentiment.

elizardbits, I feel your pain. I moved to Texas and smirked at everyone saying "howdy". Now, 'tis I who says "howdy." At least it's better than when I lived in the Bay and picked up "hella."
posted by Ghostride The Whip at 1:25 PM on December 27, 2012

Yeah, I have gone from being that guy who says 'hella' ironically to make fun of his sister for saying it unironically to being that guy who stops and grimaces and hits backspace five times quickly after typing 'hella' yet again without thinking about it.

Obvs totes annoying.

Heck, yet again am rapidly soaking up knowledge, due to MetaFilter. Have learnt more about Japanese economics and politics in the last hour of reading and following the links in this post than I have in, um, the rest of my life combined. Applauding MetaFilter users such as kliuless who take the time and research effort to construct posts that are this easy to follow, interesting, and downright informative.

No, what's worse are the civil servants who have crept into my timeline and brought their friends along. Am now deer with headlights frozen into a hamburgerless world with nary a snark. This is my last redoubt.
posted by infini at 2:06 AM on December 28, 2012

I picked up "howdy" and "y'all" in Texas. I also slip into the "Minnesota O" without trying too hard. I like to imagine that this gives we a well-rounded, well-traveled character, but I suspect it just makes me sound kind of dumb. Oh, well, something else to be thankful for - while it's better to be a smarty pants than a dummy pants, either is better than being utterly pantsless.

I'm awfully self-concious about howdy, but I can't stop myself. Whatevs, I guess.

I would like to work on "How's it goin'?" as a standard greeting because it's just so... working class.

I would take up saying "Good Morrow, Goodman Devils Rancher," but it seems so... Puritan. Also, calling you Devils anything in a friendly manner would get us both a trip to the dunking stool (at the least!).

Man, I remember when I was in high school here in the Midwest, my girlfriend and I skipped school and drove to Chicago to see Flesh For LuLu. Underage and early, we got to see the sound check. I walked right to the front of the stage and said "howdy" to Rocco and was met with silence. He looked at me, he heard what I said, but didn't respond. Good times.
