FYI: Contact Form Seems to not work on Android (Dolplhin Browser) April 25, 2013 10:29 AM   Subscribe

Last night, I tried to use the MetaFilter contact form. I had some technical difficulties with it. I tried to search to see if this a known issue with the contact form. I did not find anything but my MetaFilter search fu isn't the greatest. I thought I would just let you know, in case you didn't already know (and in case there is some stupidly simple solution should I ever need to use the form again).

I am on an Android tablet using a Dolphin browser. I would click on "subject" and it would highlight my email address above. I would click on the message area and it would let me type in a subject in the subject line above but not a message in the body. I tried pasting a message in. I did manage to select "send a copy to my email address." Trying to paste the message in resulted in the form sending. However, as best I could tell, it was empty of any message. I never got a copy of anything in my email, so I don't know if the admins got 3 empty messages, scratched their heads and moved on to more urgent matters or if y'all got nothing. I also never heard from an admin. (And if you got my message but just didn't manage to get back to me, hey, that's cool but it just doesn't look from my end like anything went through at all.

I don't currently have an issue that I wish to discuss. I am only posting this as an FYI that the contact form seems to not work on Android, at least not in Dolphin. I did not try another browser.

Thanks for the heads up, we'll take a look. In the future if you don't have anything to discuss with the community you can report problems via the Contact Form.

We definitely did not get a bunch of blank contact form emails yesterday.

Even pob nods, apparently.

I did not try another browser.

This is like one of those askmes where the guy answers his own question in the question.

"The key is in the safe."

I would have preferred to send the info privately but couldn't think of a way to do that since the contact form does not work for me.

Thanks.

FYI: I just tried another browser. Exact same set of problems.

Which version of Android are you running?

My Settings say Firmware version 2.3.5. I don't have a setting that specifically says "Android version".

Even pob nods, apparently.

How did that happen? Doh! Can I put in a pony request for an edit window?

"Do Androids dream of electric contact," he asked sheepishly.

Nothing beats a nice fresh bowl of pob nods.

I think I found the problem and fixed it up. You might need to reload the page a couple times to make sure you're not seeing a cached version.

I will reboot and send a test contact form. Thanks

Can I put in a pony request for an edit window?

They invent a time machine, go back in time and grant you your pony request. It does you no good as the window is only 5 minutes long and you missed it.

FYI for the other Android users waiting with baited breath for a heads up: It works.

(Y'all can close this now before it turns into Chat.)

Thanks.

Is it just me, or does "Android Dolphin Browser" sound like a character class in an obscure and overly-complex late-80s tabletop RPG?
