As you may have seen, the MetaFilter server has been very unstable the past few days. This should now be fixed.

In short, a bug over the weekend, when I was not actively looking at the server, led to a hard drive filling up, and then to multiple cascading problems from there, especially to do with caching database queries.

There were then several related problems happening at once, with it taking about half an hour to see if any given fix had had an impact, hence why the problems persisted so long.

In the process, I have also fixed several problems with https://status.metafilter.com and have further steps to take in cleaning up after this.

I'm sorry for the downtime and hope to soon have things running better than they were before this happened.
