Speaking of meetups, is the NYC International MeFi Meetup still on? Or at least a tri-state?

yup! sgt. serenity's in town already, and i_cola's on his way...

Let's pick a day (next Fri or Sat?) and place with a garden or backarea.

I'm for Saturday. Don't know many places to meet, tho.

This is a good time of year for the Astoria beer garden.

yes , i'm here and looking forward to the meetup , amber has already proved an excellent host, the beer garden sounds fine to me.

I'm there...well I'm in West Hollywood *now* but I will be there. Wherever there is. And whenever.

Astoria? Hmmm...maybe something a bit more USian?!?

maybe we should stick to manhattan? (i get a nosebleed if i leave the island) ; >

Oooo, yes, do it next weekend and I can maybe come too.

(Don't you need passports for Queens?)

That's even more discriminatory than banning gay marriage...(",)

I was thinking of the out of towners, she says virtuously. They'll get lost on the subway. It has absolutely nothing whatever to do with any selfish desire of my own to avoid the subway to Queens. Nope. None.

Start the festivities Saturday afternoon and I can make it, but otherwise I have to be at JFK by 6 PM. Heck, you can send me off to LAX all liquored up, maybe steal my luggage....what an opportunity folks!

Cunning, see if you can bring Washingtonienne too. : >

Why don't we say Sat. starting at 3 or 4?

Sat. starting at 3 or 4

I like your style ;-) I say 'Yay!' Now get a venue!
posted by i_cola at 10:01 AM on May 22, 2004

someone pick one from the older thread, with a backyard/patio/outdoor space.
posted by amberglow at 10:13 AM on May 22, 2004

The Manhattan snobbery must stop!!1! The beer garden is only a few stops past Lex on the N or W, and it's a nice scenic ride for out-of-towners. Czech beer at Queens prices, killer grilled sausages, and plenty of outdoor space--certainly better than that generic pub we dragged Matt to? Can I get a hell yeah from Vidiot or jonmc?
posted by muckster at 10:26 AM on May 22, 2004

I vote dba. Looks good, lots of other bar/food places nearby if we want to crawl & I know the area. And it serves cider which my friend demands.
posted by i_cola at 10:51 AM on May 22, 2004

dba sounds good, and it's not hard to get to, for you furriners : >
posted by amberglow at 11:13 AM on May 22, 2004

Hell, yeaaah! Beer Garden!
posted by jonmc at 12:38 PM on May 22, 2004

we'll have to fight for it, then--us manhattan folks and visitors and foreigners vs. the astoria crew....astoria crew, you've been served!! ; >

Abstinants only carry a .25 of a vote ;-)
posted by i_cola at 12:52 PM on May 22, 2004

Actually, as the person who will have travelled the furthest to be there (approx. 22,250 miles), I demand the casting vote!

The longest distance between any two points on Earth is no more than about 12,000 miles. Have you considered a shorter route?

I went the long way round from the UK via Australia ;-)

vaca, you coming?

In the interests of centrality, dba sounds good.
posted by adampsyche at 1:48 PM on May 22, 2004

i'm down. dba has a webcam, so someone not present (or a computer on autopilot) should get some screen captures of that cam, to be later used for some sort of arcane meetup archive purposes.

What remarkable timing - I'm a Seattleite visiting the East Coast for a couple weeks, and I'll be in Brooklyn the weekend of the NYC meetup. Excellent! I'll stop by and say hello.

If anyone is interested, the monkeys are also having a meetup in NYC the week after, beginning at the Metropolitiltan Museum of Art, and we would like extend the invitation.

I'll go to 3wa and invite some of the troops from there as well.

also, there's a streetfair on 3rd bet. 6th and 14th sts that day, so anyone want to bop up and down it pre-meetup, weather permitting?

sgt, have you been to one yet? you shouldn't miss the opportunity to buy cheap socks, housewares, peruvian sweaters, and greasy food. : >

I hope some monkeys can come this week (there are a few living in NYC); unfortunately I am in Connecticut, and can't afford to come both times (student budget - also essays to finish). But I hope you all have fun, and kilts are very comfortable.

So, just to verify that I have all the details straight: Saturday, May 29, starting between 3 and 4 PM, at dba, on 41 1st avenue in Manhattan?
