Bay Area Meetup, July 6, 2004 June 15, 2004 9:58 PM   Subscribe

Bay Area meetup July 6th 8pm. Whaddya say? East Bay? In the city? Going on the board game theme, Albatross in Berkeley's great, but if our numbers get too big, Jupiter's patio might be a better idea. I'm also open for other suggestions in SF. An earlier start time might also be nice.

I'd vote for the Albatross over Jupiter, fo sho. SF is good, too.

Cool. Will people be out of town for the holiday weekend? Would it be worthwhile to wait another week or two?

Whoops. I guess I should look at the calendar before I try to call something a "weekend." Tuesday works for me and the city is best, but anyplace near a BART stop is A-OK.

Hmm, yeah, Albatross isn't too close to a BART stop (though I think the AC Transit 52L goes there from downtown berkeley BART, and the 51 or FS drops you 1.5 blocks away). Anyone have a suggestion in SF near BART?

Cool. How about Zeitgeist? It's not too far from the 16th/Mission Bart stop.

Zeitgeist ist gut. Isn't it kinda loud at night though?

Not on Tuesday. Then again, the 6th really will still be the holiday weekend for me. Make it Bastille Day (July 14, you patriots!), and I could join you, though.

Becketts is fun, and it's near the Downtown Berkeley station. Zeitgeist is good, too.

zeitgeist is teh bestest, and on a tuesday night we can easily pwn a table or two.

awesome. been waiting for a bay area meetup. i would go for Albatross as i'm in the east bay. and lazy.

I think general consensus is Zeitgeist. Zeitgeist it is, then.

Miles Long: I'm in the East Bay, too. Care for a BART buddy?

I also set up a mailing list containing the people who have responded in this thread, minus badstone and greasepig, who do not have an email address in their profiles. I will update it to include any mefier who emails me at either the email in my profile or my MeFi name @gmail.

For the sake of privacy, the mailing list address is located in the "Location" section of my user page, viewable only if you're logged into Metafilter.
If you want off the mailing list or think it's otherwise a bad idea, just let me know.

I may come. If I do, you can rest assured that deviancy will be defined down.

Might as well be Zeitgeist. Us East Bay people are already so used to schlepping going into the City anyway ;)

While us SF people are all whining and getting our way, can it be the week of the 12th, too, then?

Dammit, you mean there are real Mefites living within spitting distance of me? This creepy Intarweb business is definitely too close for comfort.

I'm in.

Keep me in the loop. ( msacheson@yahoo.com ) I live in Rockridge (posher to say that than "Oakland"), and would prefer a Berkeley option, though I'd BART it either way.

My wife and I went to the last announced SF MeFi meetup, but only one other joined us at the Mint.

My wife probably won't be interested on a weeknight.

Dashiv and msacheson, you're both on the email list, in case it's used.

Caitlinb: I'm okay with the week of the 12th. Would the 13th work for everyone?

From Citysearch's Zeitgeist review: "This neighborhood bar is a popular place to start a night of debauchery with friends." Sounds like trouble to me. Dunno if I can make it, though.

Start? Zeitgeist is a beautiful place, where the squid drinks side by side with the Harley guy - and the bike messenger - where Italian and Japanese bikes feel no need to jockey for right of way, where you can have a big old sloppy burger off the grill (vegetarian, if you prefer). Come out and be with us, kirkaracha. I shall meet you beneath the pink elephants.

i'm in, if i survive the family wedding of doom the weekend before.

Count me in. My email's in my profile now...
posted by greasepig at 3:08 PM on June 17, 2004

judith, greasepig, and kirarcharcherarrhachara are all now on the mailing list for the meetup. We still haven't settled firmly on a date. Caitlin says she can make the 13th. Does anyone have a problem with the 13th?

(Email me with "I'm in" or "I can't make it" to confirm, and I'll worry about arranging whatever space is necessary at Zeitgeist.)

I'm in the bay area for a little while, and I think I'll still be here for the meetup (earlier is better though). If so, I'm in.

In case anyone's still checking this thread:

The meetup is scheduled for this coming Tuesday night (7/13) at Zeitgeist. Meet on the deck in the back around 6-6:30pm and we'll get our meet on.

I think the confirmed guest list so far is:
myself
kirkaracha
scarabic
DaShiv
judith
vacapinta
bendy
ambrosia
caitlinb
emanuel

That's 10 pseudo-confirmed, with other maybes. See you there.
