Last-minute Toronto meetup this weekend: to welcome a MeFite visiting from out of town. (more inside)
posted by Melinika to MetaFilter Gatherings at 12:46 PM (18 comments total)

The visiting MeFite is filmgoerjuan, the date is probably this Saturday night (I can do Friday, but it'd be a PITA for me since I'm an hour away from Toronto - however if people find Friday easier, I can work something out), and the plan so far is finding a bar or pub with NTN and hanging out for a couple of hours, but hey, we could do something else instead (even though NTN is a lot of fun!). I don't know Toronto very well at all so help finding a good spot to meet at would rock.

For those about to meet filmgoerjuan, here are a few tips:

1) Love him.
2) Let him know that you love him.
3) Really let him know that you pointed out that you love him. ;)

4) ??? (but be sure to take pictures)
5) Profit!

I'd probably make the trip if you wacky Canucks would plan a Toronto meetup ahead of time, ;-)

There are a string of places down on the Esplanade that have NTN, like the sales dude for that area was really good or something. There's Uno's, the Spaghetti Factory, that pubby place next door...

Now I'm all nostalgic. I should come back sometime.

Sorry, Shane, but I only found out yesterday that he'd be in Toronto. We can do another soon, though! (Especially if we kick ass and take names at NTN - who better than a group of MeFites to excel at a trivia game?)

Looking at the NTN page, most of the establishments belong to the same chain of "Olde Worlde Pubs" (ahem) - so the salesman probably just had to toddle on up to corporate HQ in Mississauga to make the sale. :-)

As I said to 'nika, gesamtkunstwerk and I would like to drop by, but we have a long-scheduled debauchathon to attend on Sat. evening. Take pics!

If it is just me and Melinika it will only serve to convince me that Torontonians are cold and distant people who think they're too good to hang out with us Lotus Landers. Goodness knows I've run into enough Toronto expats in Vancouver who go on about how wonderful this town is; here's your chance to show me just what this city has to offer!

And ignore what riffola says (specifically what he said in this thread, but it applies generally as well). I am not an emotionally needy person who seeks validation from those around him, becoming petulant when he doesn't receive the attention he so desperately desires...not in the slightest!

Oh please say you'll come! There'll be cake and ice cream that mummy made...she so wants everyone to be my friend!

*breaks down in tears*

I'd go but recently tore the muscles/cartilidge between my ribs (joy!) so my company isn't that happy these days. Have a great time, Juan! (Even though you're a coupla weeks early.)

I think I'm going to go. I like trivia. It makes me feel smart to actually be able to use the scrap heap of useless minutiae that is my mind.

Sorry to hear you're on the invalid list, dobbs. And my imagination is going to work trying to figure out how you got such an injury. No, don't tell me. Speculation is always more fun than the reality.

Speaking of the fest, maybe a small meetup at a certain screening (midnight madness, anyone?) would be in order?

Green Room? IMHO, one of the better bars in Toronto.

Twenty-four hours and no posts! Oh, no.

I am interested. I'll be on the one-beer limit/plan because I'm working heavy hours the weekend. Attendence depending on distance I needs to travel and if I run into over time.

But. Saturday? Where along the Esplanade? And if stonerose and gesamtkunstwerk aren't going, who's bringing the Maple Leafs toque...?

Looks like it's ein-stein's pub and cafe for NTN. See you all around 9 PM or so? I'll bring my The Cheat hoodie so if you don't know who we are, you can look for that. =)

I've just posted a question to Ask that may be of interest to TIFF-goers.

Sigh, after all of the time I spent emailing 'nika about this, my dinner engagement both ran very long and made me quite ill (nothing wrong with the food, I just have a very sensitive digestive system which recoiled at the level of spice involved) and I've come home to be miserable instead of joining everyone for NTN. I hope you're having fun!

Sorry you couldn't make it, jacquilynne. That vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant you recommended was absolutely amazing (easily the best meal I had while in Toronto). It was a shame you weren't able to join us at the pub...although your being there would probably have meant that I would have kept coming in 4th at NTN instead of 3rd :(

A splendid time was had by all (Melinika and orange swan, back me up on this...remember our agreement). Sadly, there are no photos and no shout-outs. None whatsoever, so don't even think of asking. That much fun can't be captured on film.
