Does that mean we're public domain now?

Wow. That changes everything!

Careful, zadcat, people get rude when you try and be helpful.

That this has been mentioned perhaps ten times here on the gray leads me to believe that Matt is now recalcitrant and unwilling to change it just to spite all the people for whom this seems to be a big freakin deal.

But I could be wrong.

You couldn't just email Matt? Or were you looking forward to the fascinating discussion about this?

terrapin, it's like I said.

nthdegx: Based on the replies so far, I can see why you would link to Matt's negative ninnies post.

Because assuming that something is a "big freakin deal" to someone when that person is simply trying to be helpful is a very positive user experience. And being told to e-mail Matt rather than to post a bug as a bug in MetaTalk (as the place is designed) is also so very helpful and positive.

Why change it now? 2004 is almost over; if Matt changed it now he'd have to go back and do it again in just a few months. Best to just wait until 2005.

We are so taking advantage of the fact that Matt went and got hisself a job, eh?

Better yet, just have it automaticly update. That's what computers are for, taking over the menial tasks.
Or even beter yet, just take out the whole © thing, it isn't necessary anymore under the Berne Convention. (The only real benefit to a copyright notice (in the US) being that a judge is less likely to accept the "I didn't know it was copyrighted" defence when assigning damages, but I don't think that's entirely relevant for MeFi).

Good legalese blurb, arto, but you forgot:
Objects in the rear view mirror are closer than they appear. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. The Surgeon General has determined that cigarette smoking is harmful to your health. The Attorney General has determined that exercising free speech isn't good for you either. The opinions expressed in MetaFilter, MetaTalk, Ask MetaFilter, #mefi, 9622.net or any MeFi member's personal blog does not necessarily represent the views of anyone in his right mind. Repeat.

Of course, you could always default to:

I just stopped back in to see if quonsar still had that fish in his pants. This seemed like a good forum for an update on that front.

Since we haven't heard anything lately, I'm going to have to assume that troutfishing dropped by and relieved us of the burden. As long as five fresh fish doesn't make an appearance any time soon, things should remain calm.
