Kansas Meetup April 23, 2005 10:41 AM   Subscribe

It's almost time for the first ever Lawrence, Kansas metafilter meetup! Who's with me, and where and when should it be?

OK, sure. But if it's just going to be you, me, mel, popcorn, and wine... oh wait that sounds fine.

I'll leave logistics up to you and be sure to bring lots of Beatles and Beach Boys albums.

How about next weekend, or the one after that, at the Replay?
posted by interrobang at 1:41 PM on April 23, 2005

The weekend of the 7th would be better for me.
posted by sleepy pete at 2:22 PM on April 23, 2005

I'll go have a drink, sure.

Man, I am pretty swamped until graduation on the 14th, but if you decide on a time and place I can try to be there.

After the 14th is good, too. I don't have a calendar; does anyone know the date of the weekend following the 14th?
posted by interrobang at 4:56 PM on April 23, 2005

The Saturday following is the 21st. It works for us as well.

(congratulations on graduating, sp!)

I'm shocked there are seven Mefites in Kansas. Wait, some of you posted more than once.

+1...
The Replay's peachy. I'd show up, even if I am just off the assembly line...
posted by hototogisu at 12:28 AM on April 24, 2005

Ah, the Replay. I remember when it opened. How's Lawrence these days? Is Rudy's still serving it up? Has the Crossing been reclaimed or is it still a fratboy stronghold? I wish I could be there...a mefi meetup in Lawrence would be amazing.

The Crossing is still a fratboy stronghold, balanced out in city-planning karma by the presence of Yello Sub fifteen feet away. There was a nice coffee shop behind the Crossing for a while, but it seems to have closed.

Rudy's is still there too (I think I'm the only one in this town who doesn't like their pizza though...).
posted by hototogisu at 10:47 AM on April 24, 2005

hototogisu, I don't really care for Rudy's either. We can start a club.

I'd love to have a meetup, too, but I'll be out of town for the summer starting on the 19th (I think).
posted by katieinshoes at 11:46 AM on April 24, 2005

Okay, it sounds like the 21st works best for most people. I'll post a reminder right before it happens.

(And Rudy's makes the shittiest pizza I've ever had, by the way.)
posted by interrobang at 11:52 AM on April 24, 2005

Actually, looks like I'm heading out the 21st. Curses.
posted by hototogisu at 12:17 PM on April 24, 2005

Back when I lived in Lawrence, Rudy's actually occupied the space behind the Crossing. At the time, the Crossing was an alt/hippy haven that blended in perfectly with Rudy's, Yello Sub, and Glass Onion. Speaking of city planning karma, though, the Ecumenical Christian Ministries building about 50 feet away is technically a church, which is why the Crossing can't serve liquor, and in fact can only serve 3.2 beer. Or maybe you all knew that already.

It really is a wonderful town. I often miss it.

Well, crap. How about the weekend after the 21st? Will you be back for that, hototogisu? Or should we just continue on with the 21st?
posted by interrobang at 2:27 PM on April 24, 2005

Hmm. Should be back (but if that's a problem for anyone else, don't worry about me). What about the 20th, though? Granted, it's the end of finals, but how many of us are students, anyway?
posted by hototogisu at 3:29 PM on April 24, 2005

I could probably make it if it's the 20th, but could certainly not make the 21st.
posted by katieinshoes at 7:55 PM on April 24, 2005

I'm okay with the 20th.

How about this: Friday, May 20, the Replay, out back, 8:00 pm. Does that work for most people?
posted by interrobang at 8:09 PM on April 24, 2005

I'll try to be there. No promises.
posted by rocketman at 1:32 PM on April 25, 2005

I'll post a followup when the time is near. So far, it looks like sleepy pete, melissa may, and I are definite. Also attending will be brand new member Sybil.

rocketman and hototogisu sound probable, and kateinshoes is a maybe.

I'd also like to point out that rocketman would be coming all the way from Wisconsin! Lawrence metafilter members rule!
posted by interrobang at 10:08 PM on April 26, 2005

I'd also like to point out that I make every meetup seem "complete," since I puke a lot.
posted by rocketman at 6:12 AM on April 27, 2005

The 20th is good for me. If I make it through my last round of finals ya'll can call me sp, j.d. Thanks for the congrats mm, but I don't really feel graduated yet - chickens, hatching and all that stuff (plus my almost absolute fear and dismay when it comes to the taxation of individual income, which just happens to be my last final).
posted by sp dinsmoor at 7:28 PM on April 27, 2005

Oops, thought I already replied to this...

I'll be there. Now, the real question is how many of you I know already...

Oh--does anyone have a digital camera?

*desolate wind noise*
posted by hototogisu at 11:42 PM on April 28, 2005

I have a digital camera, and I'll bring it. I'll also post a reminder about the meetup when the 20th is near.

I can't wait to show all you my Wookiee.
