Isn't it about time for another SF Meetup? When and where is good for you?

Funny you should mention it, I ran into quasistoic yesterday and he said the same thing.

I'll be at Martuni's at around 9 tonight if anyone wants to drop by :)

Just back from Seattle, and you're already jonesing for another meetup?

I'll be at the top of the Hayes Street Hill early tomorrow morning for Bay To Breakers-- drop by the couch in Alamo Square, especially if you're running the race &/or you enjoy being drunk before noon.

I just quit my job -on fridaythe 13th- to work on teh internets full time. Bring it on! I'd love to meet some of you.

Could I persuade you to have the meetup sometime next week? I'm leaving town on Saturday, the 21st, and I'll be gone for a few weeks. Not that I expect anyone to plan these things around my schedule...

Hm, if you wait 2 weeks, I'll stop by; moving in for the summer from Boston. Could do some MeFi cross-pollination.

Can it please occur somewhere at which boozing is a secondary or tertiary activity? Back in the olden days we used to use pizza joints for this purpose as they are usually friendly towards long-lingering groups.

Pizza sounds good to me. I'm hungry.

Sounds great to me, majick! Does anyone have some hot tips for SF pizza places that are easy access to BART?
posted by caitlinb at 12:22 PM on May 15, 2005

I'm drawing a blank on BART-accessible pizza, but what about meeting someplace like the Mel's diner by the Metreon, or Lori's Diner at Powell Street (Union Square). They're both pretty big places, relatively cheap, and have other activities nearby. Now I'm hungry too!

Pauline's Pizza got a good review in the Chron recently. I've never been there - anyone know if it's suitable for something like this? It's at Valencia between 14th and Duboce - not exactly at a BART station, but not far either.
It's not far from where I work - I could check it out if no one else knows...

I'm going to be out of town next weekend (the 21st) also, but would love to come if it's some other time.

I've only walked by, but Pauline's is pretty upscale (at least as far as pizza joints go). Wine glasses and silverware on the table, sundried tomatoes on the pizza. It's supposed to be great, and not particularly expensive as far as a dinner-out goes, but it's not really a "pizza joint."

I was just at Pauline's with a decent sized group after a number of pitchers at zeitgeist. I don't think you need to worry about it being even remotely upscale.
They have an upstairs with some pretty big tables where there were a bunch of groups. I'd be that if we called ahead - it could work well.

Yeah most of the Pizza is in the Haight and North Beach. Not so BARTy. But then, it's an SF meetup so don't sweat too much about us Beast-ies.

By the way I must remark that drinking is always a secondary activity. The primary focus is usually taking pictures. Secondarily, general talk and socializing. Tertiarily, various games both finite and indiscreet. I QUITE enjoyed the card-games at the last East Bay meetup, and epimorph came from behind to roundly beat me in a scintillating game of darts. There was some deep discussion, some passing out of gifts, some evil plotting and fond remembrance. Drinking? Pshaw.

Really, you missed a good time, majick, even though it was held at a bar. And come to think of it, we had pizza delivered TO the bar. You can't beat that.

I'm hearing that it will be at Pauline's.

So! What day?

"...even though it was held at a bar."

That's more or less what I'm hoping to avoid.

"By the way I must remark that drinking is always a secondary activity."

For the group, yes. But it's the venues I'm bitching about.

"So! What day?"

I'm more likely to be grinding late at the office on Tuesdays & Thursdays, although lately it's been all the damn time. I'll peep our release schedule when I get to work and look for a favorable date.

We could always take over the food court area in the Metreon. It's accessible by BART (between Powell and Montgomery) There's pizza. There's noodles. There's booze upstairs and over at Jillian's if need be. There's the park next door if it's sunny. And anything that could possible disingrate into virtual bowling is good by me.

(But I'll be out of town this weekend.)

I would prefer not to spend my evening in a food court, regardless of nearby attractions. I've been meaning to try Pauline's, though. Is this Friday the 20th early enough for epimorph and Gucky and late enough for majick?

Heh, please disregard what I said earlier. At this point, I probably won't be able to attend this meetup no matter when it is (within a month from now). :(

Zante's (indian) pizza, on mission @ cortland, can host tons of people without a reservation. A six block walk/bus ride from BART. Plus, indian pizza rules :)

As long as it's before the 29th (when I'll be NC-bound), I'll try to put in an appearance. Friday's good, or anytime from Sunday the 22nd on. Mmm, pizza.

In the spirit of leaving majick no excuses not to come, I am all for having it wherever and whenever he says :)

what's the verdict for this?

I'll catch you cats at the next one, as Friday I'm in transit. Have fun, post pictures and tell me how the 'za is.

need to have one at webzine in september also.

Friday is... moderately convenient.

I work on Friday, but only until 3. At that point my entire office gets booted out of the building for a move to another building. Hence, I have the entire afternoon off. With that comes the risk that I will wander home unless I find something suitably interesting to do for that three-to-supper interval, but if I stay in town I'd love to see everyone!
posted by majick at 8:34 PM on May 18, 2005

I'm out of town this Friday, so won't be there - but have a great time everyone, and hopefully I'll see you all next go around.
posted by jasper411 at 9:29 PM on May 18, 2005

Friday's out for me, but I have secured an admission that if I go for this coming Wednesday, majick "do[es] not object!" So I'll go ahead and make an upcoming.org event for a post-work meet at Pauline's on Wednesday.
