MeFiSwap is back and bigger than ever June 9, 2005 8:18 AM   Subscribe

It lives! It lives! After much fiddling, the MeFiSwap is back, bigger, brighter and better than ever with a new administrative system that will (knock wood) eliminate all of the human delays which have plagued it to date. Come, register, swap.

Also, if you were a part of the last one, please take a minute to follow-up on its success, if you would. Ta.

Dreama you're the dreamiest, thank you.

Do I need to register to find out what it is that you guys swap? I poked around the site, but the faqs didn't enummerate on anything aside from registration. Is this a cd swap...or is it cooler stuff like...stuff?

My comments: "The Mefiswap is totally awesome. I purchased three CDs from artists I had never heard of in the wake of the first swap. I'm not entirely sure my budget can handle it, but I think I'll join the next one, too. Thank you, dreama!"

Awesome. This was one of the reasons I ponied up the five bucks. Now let's just hope that I draw JonMC, so that I can get one of his unpretentious every-guy mixes!

So this is just a music exchange? Huh, I was picturing a huge board where MeFi users swapped goods and services. I will have to dispose of my old computer equipment elsewhere.

I look forward to the next round of MeFi Swap! This last one was fantastic, I received nine CDs from wonderful MeFi'tes with artists that I would have never discovered on my own. Thank you MeFi !

I loved the last swap, and the new organizational scheme looks good, but as soon as I registered and tried to log in with the password I used, it said it was an invalid password. I'm sure I used the right password since I had just entered it a minute previously, but I asked it to email me my password, which I haven't gotten yet. You might want to check that it is working OK.

naxosaxur and Eldeteker - it's an audio CD swap. You send five, you get five if everyone's trustworthy. (They are more than not.) Once you've done it once, you can send ten and get ten.

matildaben - It is working okay, all new users have to be activated by yours truly -- that's how I'm keeping non-member interlopers out. :D (Yes, every single swap we have a good handful of non-MeFites who try to horn in on our action.)

I'm about to go and activate everyone who has registered thus far (6:40-ish p.m. US EDT) so you should all be ready to go in about a half hour or so.

Eideteker: That's actually a kind of neat idea. Freecycle might be your best bet though... (I have an assload of promo cds that I'd love to be rid of).

Thanks, Dreama. Sorry to be so impatient. The Internet has spoiled me.

Are these mp3s or regular CDs?
posted by caddis at 6:18 PM on June 9, 2005

Regular CDs, caddis. It's about, um, sharing our picks of favorite tunes on a quadrennial basis, not piracy.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

My Eyz, my eyz!

(sorry sorry sorry, it's probably that I've been in the dark for the last couple of hours - but, that was a serious shock on my eyes, so much that I couldn't bring myself to explore the page further as I had to alt-F4)

Excellent! I'll be in for two swaps this time round.

BTW - 3 different swaps over the years contained a different track from the same album. Can anybody top that? So thanks to cortex, Mars Saxman and fatllama for introducing me to Poe.

One quibble - you should probably tell people not to use their Metafilter passwords when they sign up.
I've got questions, but I assume they'll be answered once I'm in and strolling through the Forum.

Dreama, could you pls email me? Thanks.

Hooray! Will the "occasional emails from administrators" remind me to get my shit together?

Dreama --> If I enter in my mailing address, can I change it? I'll be moving in a few weeks, but want to enter some kind of address now or else I might forget alltogether...

Do we have to make ten different mixes? I'm pretty sure I can make one really great mix and send it to ten people, but I dunno if I have time to make ten different mixes..

I still haven't gotten an email from the swap registration. Am I missing all the fun? Dreama, please help me figure out why I can't get in!
