It's been pushed back to 8? I might actually make it.

The upcoming.org page has the 5 / 25 typo in the text.
I might be free; I wonder what this meetup thing is all about.

Um. Don't be alarmed, but this is at the height of the Dyke March. For you out-of-towners, that means do not attempt to drive, park, take surface transit through, or otherwise traverse the Castro or the northwest corner of the Mission from ~6:30 pm onwards unless you have a lot of time on your hands.

Thirsty Bear is far enough away that it probably won't be affected. However, MUNI and BART will be crowded, and traffic can back up quite far.

I'd love to join y'all, but I have a pervious engagement.

Hmmm, I was planning on watching the Dyke March from a friend's place on Valencia and 16th, then hopping on BART to make the meetup. Is that not going to happen?

Eh, I might possibly do this. But probably not. Unless someone can work out a way to shoot me across the bay, out of a cannon. That would not only be extremely cool, but be a less painful trip in and out of town given that THIS INSANE MEETUP WAS SCHEDULED IN THE MIDDLE OF FUCKING DYKEMARCH.

Ooof, perhaps my post was too strongly-worded. Underground transit (BART, MUNI Metro) will be fine, if more crowded (and festive!) than usual. BART is even running extra trains for the Bay Bridge series and Pride Parade this weekend.

But really, for the love of anything lovable, stay out of the Mission/Castro if you're driving.

Looks like I'll miss you folks due to a previous engagement. Have a grand time! The best thing about Thirsty Bear is its proximity to Yerba Beuna. That park has got to be the best place to vomit in the western hemisphere.

ok, so i have no idea what a dyke march is (yeah, i can guess), or what mission and castro are, but this is the one guaranteed night when i will free (my co-workers arrive next day - this is a work trip), so i will certainly be there, for at least a pint or two (i hear the beer isn't too bad).

"...MUNI Metro will be fine..."

I would like to point out that there are no circumstances under which the metro can be described as "fine." The only states that the metro can validly be in are: "broken," "sardine packed with baseball asshats," or "running a mere 45 minutes behind."

I somehow missed this until now.

I won't be able to make it, but I'll regret not going.

Have fun.

And get the potatoes. They're good.

I'll drop by, dykes or not.

I was giving it some thought but have the worst cold ever. Do have a nice beverage for me, would you?

I, too, have another commitment, but have a grand time guys!

majick, I beg to differ: the latter two you listed are considered 'optimal performance' and the first, standard operating procedure. I mean, come on, why get there quickly in a cab when you can spend half the day on the 14?

bart was fine 30mins ago, coming in from the airport. :o)

Fine, there's a Houston meetup right when I leave for the Bay Area, and a Bay Area meetup right when I leave for Houston. I see how it is. Snobs.

"why get there quickly in a cab when you can spend half the day on the 14?"

Because most of the city served by the 14 is a completely bereft of cab service? Ever actually try calling for a taxi? They don't show up.

By the way, the 14 isn't "the metro." That's a bus.

"bart was fine 30mins ago, coming in from the airport."

That's because you were approaching from the south, where BART is merely slow, but rarely hosed and never crowded. Peninsula BART barely counts as BART to begin with. It's more like a shuttle service to graveyard land.

Regardless, I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and suffered few or no transit-related mishaps!

well, only epimorph and dashiv showed up, but they were jolly friendly. i had a mushroom and goat's cheese tart (not bad) while someone ate half an old burrito; we admired the size of lenses, discussed what it's like to feel an alien in your home environment, and were finally convinced that ring theory is relevant to public key crypto.

so thanks, guys - and you really should see the sfmoma which has a kick-ass collection (though too many photos for my taste - including a weston whose framing demands the question "did tina modotti have celulite, or is it cropped at that point for the artistic balance?") and a pretty good cafe (great gnocchi - brought back fond memories of the waitress).
