Bug in AskMe posting? July 15, 2005 6:55 AM   Subscribe

I tried to post a question in AskMe, but it wouldn't show up. When I tried to post again, it said: sorry, you already asked a question this week. Catch 22, or is there a delay in question posting that I'm not aware of?
posted by NekulturnY to Bugs at 6:55 AM (304 comments total)

Mkay, there is a delay. # 1 please delete away (my Meta post! not my AskMe question!), I will try to delete myself as well.

Yeah, the same thing happened to me this morning. My question didn't show up on the main AskMe page right away, but it was on the section page, which is the only reason I didn't MeTa it. I think it might be some sort of caching thing. Might still be worth looking into (or at least there should be a transition page that says "AskMe got your question, it will show up on the main page in a couple minutes").

It happened to me posting FPP to the blue. It used to appear sort of instantaneously. But it took a good few minutes. When it hadn't come up I previewed it again and the URL search came up positive already. A tad strange.

Posting AskMe questions is a leading contributor to insanity.

read metatalk daily, instead of just scampering in and posting when you see something different. matt has answered this question more than once. cacheing has been implemented as part of the campaign to reduce server load/errors. seems to be working.

There shouldn't be a delay (there isn't on metafilter and metatalk, which also cache queries), some change of code recently must have messed up the ask mefi code that flushes the cache as soon as a new post is made.

It'll be fixed when I get home later tonight.

If you cannot control your baser natures, how can you expect it of us? Are we not citizens of the community? Do we not share our pancakes, verily in the cafeterias' of your little ones? Can't we not co-exist?

"It was on this day in 1940 that Bugs Bunny made his debut in a cartoon called "A Wild Hare." Warner Brothers' writers and animators set out to make a rabbit who would be the epitome of cool. They modeled bugs on Groucho Marx with a carrot instead of a cigar. Mel Blanc gave him a Brooklyn accent. He was a nonchalant rabbit who chewed on his carrot in the face of all of his enemies and he was famous for the line, "What's up, doc?" which he used in that first cartoon when he met Elmer Fudd who was hunting rabbits."
The above borrowed from Garrison Keillor's Writer's Almanac.
I thought it was important to point out that Bugs is now of retirement age. Will there be funds in Social Security to allow him peaceful golden years, or will you find him greeting at Wal-Mart in order to keep himself in carrots.

IIHAA really fucked some shit up there!

Looks to me like you did it.

I have no idea what they're talking about, gnfti...but those are some cute little boxes huh?

kenko - I think you just might have curly hair. All longboaters must have appreciated the shout out.

You think, Cranberry? I guess it is a bit curly at that.

Yes, I, too, am going to assume Balisong was talking to us. However, as much as I value roadtrips and libertarians' knives, I'm skeptical of our ability to coordinate a San Diego/D.C./Chicago/Canadian prairie/Netherlands/Portland/everywhere else meetup in Colorado Springs.

What I Did on My Summer Vacation

I feel terrible for neglecting the longboat for several weeks. I do not deserve any sugar cubes at all. None! None at all! For at least 3 hours. But here are some things I did on my summer vacation:

1. I hiked up this!

"This" is Angel's Landing, in Zion National Park, in Utah. It is scary, as there are great, sheer cliffs on either side of the trail, and one could easily fall to one's death there. Even donkeys.

2. Before I hiked Angel's landing, I tripped on a piece of jagged sidewalk and landed on my chin. Which is further evidence that I could have easily fallen to my death from a narrow trail atop a large mountain. No pictures were taken of me eating it on the sidewalk, but my sister kindly made this illustration of the events for me:

For some reason I'm represented here as a red and blue flower. It is not a completely accurate likeness.

3. I went to a job interview with a big Band-Aid on my chin. Lovely.

Nice Donkey, if you didn't cry you get a lollipop. Is your sister a mefite? Can we look forward to more illustrations?
posted by Cranberry at 1:58 PM on August 12, 2005

Did you get the job? Your user page says "working for the man in a pharmaceutical research lab". Not exactly the best place for someone who falls down - all those broken test tubes.
Your climbing feat should instil confidence in a prospective employer. Congratulations on a major achievement.

I didn't cry. I needed hardcore pampering that day, though. No, my sister is not a mefite, but she is an illustrator. Normally a medical illustrator -- blood, guts, new surgical tools, etc. Here are some nice insides that she did:

Don't know if I got the job yet. I am still "working for the man in a pharmaceutical research lab", although the potential new job wouldn't be way different from what I'm doing now.

So far I haven't fallen down at work. Wait, that's not true, once I tripped on the way up the stairs and threw a giant taco salad on the ground. Never fell on broken test tubes, though.

Also, I've managed to make a few messes with radioactive material at work. But those were made mostly by dropping things, so I don't think they count.

Nice Donkey, you're still my friend.

what will happen when the Iceland authorities find that grapefruitmoon's longboat is radioactive?
Since languagehat hates us all except Nice Donkey who is drugged, let's all say he made us do it. OK?

Mom got you a job modeling? Does that mean you were famous even before so many MeFites favored your nick?

All day long, I haven't been able to connect to MeFi from my home computer. Only from other computers via the magic of ssh. And then I couldn't log in under my real name. AND, I see that, under links, evn though live preview doesn't work, I can post without previewing!

Poor Hairy Organ Harry Morgan. *sheds a tear* I wonder what the problem is? I hope IIHAA isn't banned. But Matt's unlikely to remember your myriad sock puppets.

I originally typed sock as suck. Understandable typo or Freudian slip? You decide.

Dude, just yesterday, I ran into MetaFilter on the street and I said to her "Hey, how are you doing, I heard you're going through a bit of a rough patch" and she just broke down and bawled all over me.

Anything can break Metafilter. We need to be nicer to her. I propose a sitewide crackdown on non-nice behaviour towards Metafilter to be overseen by Constable Harry Morgan.

9925 is too long already. Why not break with tradition, get off Route 101, and pop over to 9963 to help celebrate Bendy's birthday? There might be some cake left over.
posted by Cranberry at 12:51 AM on August 15, 2005

"Closing," phhushaw.

9924, bukkake.metafilter.com, sounds like a lemony-er party than Bendy's to me. But wherever, you name the thread, I'll bring my lampshade.

I don't really see what the problem with going to 9925, is. Remember: you can continue to post here.

Of course if there's a consensus for the tradition break, whatever. I think 9925 will do, though.
