Thinking ahead to a celebration!
MetaFilter has made so much progress! With both the fundraising and the community involvement. We should think about a celebration! Here are a couple of ideas: 1. We could do something by Zoom the last week of the events. 2. In January, we could designate a weekend where we encourage people to get together for IRL events.
Trans Day of Visibility on Metafilter
March 31st is the International Transgender Day of Visibility. I'd like a thread for those of us who are here to talk about our experiences on MetaFilter if we want to, to raise awareness of issues, and to celebrate our lives and contributions and voices and each other. [more inside]

End of another week, let's talk about something else that is not related to politics. Let's talk about fireworks. Here in N. America we've recently celebrated Canada Day (July 1) and Independence Day (July 4). Both of these holidays are traditionally celebrated with the setting off of fireworks. Are there any other holidays from around the world where you celebrate with fireworks? I'd love to learn more about that. Do you hate or fear fireworks? Do you set them off yourself? Do you attend a local display put on by your town or city? Do you buy them illegally? Are there any specific types you prefer? Blackcats? UFOs? Roman candles? Feel free to share any photographs/videos of firework displays you've attended recently. As always be kind to yourself and others. And remember to practice proper fire safety protocols.
Say goodbye to gman

His wife and friends sent out an email this weekend, and with their permission, the message has been adapted and presented here for Mefites who knew him: [more inside]
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
How are you celebrating? Are you reading about Irish history? Maybe some James Joyce? Or maybe you're having a nice stout craft beer. Just make sure it's poured correctly. Share how you are celebrating St. Patrick's Day or how you are not. And remember to stay safe.
