Strike that, reverse it?

LIGHTEN UP ON THE INSTANT DELETIONS, PLEASE

I made an ill considered remark in timsteil's folkstreams post and he made a polite response which made me feel ashamed after I saw his consternation. I wanted to clarify my harsh out and went to make a clarifying comment when my computer crashed and I had to reboot. And when I got back, I made my comment and then saw his was already deleted. I am getting so sick of the editing of our conversations.I really think sometime that there should be placeholders for all deletions you make. You are overdoing it, in my estimation. [more inside]

keep comments while still killing posts

I was a little sad to see the Purple Reign post deleted; I realize that the post itself was DOA but I loved some of the links posted within the thread. Perhaps there is a middle ground that is a step above killing that would still allow folks to at least see the comments while still culling the post.

When the cat's away the mice will SPAM.

Can we please have an automatic deletion and/or penalty box for posts that get flagged for breaking guidelines by many users at times when no mod is online? [more inside]

Request: the ability to retrieve a comment that was almost posted to a deleted thread.

A FPP rant was recently deleted after I began to compose my response. Hence, by the time I was ready to post, the thread was closed to new comments... and I lost several good paragraphs that I would have been content to post elsewhere. Respectfully request some scheme (redirection to Preview Page, for instance) whereby content is retrieveable in such a case.

Historical engineering

If the admins are going to delete comments then at least delete any responses to those comments and the collateral damage. It has more finesse, although I guess it would take more time, but that's the price of historical engineering. Yes, it was my comment that was deleted. That's fine, I don't mind that at all, and I'm sorry for the mess.

Display reasons for deletions on the deleted post?

Thanks to bloglines, I often see Ask MeFi questions that were deleted in my updates, only to see the "Nothing to see here, move along..." error when I try to view the question. This bothers me, for some reason. Is there any way to make the page for a deleted question show why the question was deleted?

For example, why was this deleted? It doesn't seem out of scope for Ask MeFi:

"If you could take a sabbatical from everything in your life, what would you pursue? Forget the job, forget the kids, forget the mortgage. Take one year of your life and do something inspirational, heroic, adventurous, altruisitic, or any adjective. Do not worry about money, do not worry about health insurance, do not worry about coming back. What would you pursue, why would you choose it, and how would you do it?"

Deleted posts search feature?

This thread for googling for WMDs has come up I think three times now. (And will probably be deleted before most of you read this post.) As It took me quite a while to locate via search where the page in question was first posted, and this mistake could be made with similar distributed content is there any way that we can have the search feature include deleated posts? If it did this person would have probably seen the other two deleted posts and not posted this. Perhaps a checkbox on the search page for 'include deleted posts'.
