Dr Strauss says I shoud rite down what I think and remembir.

According to the responses to this AskMe question, MetaFilter is home to 15+ regular users who score at least three standard deviations away from the mean on IQ tests (in the positive direction). And, moreover, these extraordinary savants monitor AskMe systematically enough to pick out questions relevant to their stratospheric intellects, and they are happy to discuss their lot (some via sock puppets). I think that we, the MeFi userbase, should be proud to share the company of so many outstandingly gifted individuals, and that this is truly one of the things that makes MeFi such an extraordinary online community.

Geniuses vs. Grinds

I'm looking for an old Ask thread about the different ways people do well in school. It talked about the disdain people who glide through have for the people who study hard, and that the former consider effort a sign of not being smart enough to excel without trying. [more inside]

Collectively smarter than all of you put together

It would appear that Metafilter is collectively smarter than Scott McNealy, Mitch Kapor, and a lot of other people ... and quicker than Snopes (as least in this case). Collectively is the operative word, of course, but I thought this was worth a chuckle.

Was this thread on voter intelligence deleted?

I could swear I saw a link in a thread on Mefi recently that debunke the supposed correlation between voter intelligence and voting preferences, with a link to a spreadsheet containing the actual correlation between the two. Except I can't find it now and I'm wondering if the thread got nuked or if it was tucked away in a thread of a different topic. Does anyone remember this?
