I don't think this is how page views are supposed to work.

So when I look at a user's answers in AskMe, they are divided up into a certain number of pages. Yet when I go to the next page of comments, it only adds them to the previous page, and so on, until at the last page I have all their answers in one window. The header and address would say I'm looking at say, comments 51-100, when all 100 are being displayed. I don't think this is how page views is supposed to work.

How does ad filtering affect Metafilter's bottom line?

Like many of us, I've got AdBlock installed in Mozilla/Firefox. I've gathered from reading threads that Google textads appear in a number of threads, often with hilarious results. However, I don't see these ads because I've got the iframe or whatever filtered out.

Does filtering the ads affect the pageviews or whatever mechanism is used to pay Matt? If so, I'll happily unblock the ads to keep Metafilter solvent. If not, I'm just as happy to skip them.

Google has been very slow for the past few days...

Google has been very slow for the past few days (through WorldCom T1.) When loading MetaFilter, it has been hanging on the Google Ads. While I don't want to add '127.0.0.1 pagead.googlesyndication.com' to my host file, I'm not sure of another way to resolve one site affecting another's ability to fully load.

Page Views

Maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part, but I think it would be neat to have a feature that displays the number of times a page was viewed, so that those threads that are truly great yet don't elicit many responses are acknowledged. Just a thought.

Should we run ads?

Okay, we've discussed it before, but now having looked at the stats for the last couple of months, ADs are a real possibility. Last I checked the average AD payout was $1 ever 1000 page views. Now, with MeFi getting over 5,000,000 a month, that's $5000 a month in revenue. That could keep Matt happy all year round and MeFi up for life. Comments?
