Sharing and Over-sharing

We've had a couple of threads about Lastpass: the news of the breach and an ask for alternatives. It's pushed my buttons as being across the line into "don't show your dirty laundry in public."

I get that we build community by sharing info about ourselves, it's why I like a MetaTalkTail Hour and the Free Threads. Recommending a password manager by dint of your personal experience also serves to tell the world how you secure your online activity. [more inside]

New login system, finally!

We've finally finished a several month long project today by reworking the back end of Metafilter to bring site security practices up to date. The new login system we were testing yesterday is now live for everyone. And you can even change your password now, after 8 years of everyone asking! [more inside]

Wondering again about the passwords...

This sounds remarkably familiar. Is that why we can't change our passwords?

Lost Password Bug

I know this has been brought up before, but the lost password emailer is not working. I am getting the "email not found, password not sent" message. I have emailed to request my password but have received no response. Is there no way to get my password?

Can you let us change our passwords?

Can we please have the ability to change our passwords built into the site? It's an overdue feature, no?

Changing Passwords

I've clicked all over looking for the place to change my MeFi password. WHere can I find that? It's not in 'Preferences', which was the most obvious choice.

Passwords

Did someone try to steal my awesome account? I just got my password emailed to me, with a statement that I requested it, but... I didn't request it.

Changing Passwords

Seems like this was addressed as a future To-Do item last november, but is there any way to change one's password right now or in the near fuure?

Resetting Passwords

Metafilter is one of the only membership sites on the web that doesn't allow a user to reset their password. Now that you have some help with the coding, and to facilitate sponsored memberships and take some of the workload off of you (not to mention provide all the normal benefits that prompt sites to allow password changing), wouldn't it make sense to add a password change widget to the site? This can't be very complicated coding. Or is there some specific reason why you don't want this feature?

Changing Passwords

Uhm, forgive my wanton ignorance and woeful ineptitude, but can you change your password? I've looked, and I've looked, and I've wept.

Changing Passwords

This may sound a bit clueless, but is it possible to change our passwords? I can't seem to figure out how.

What exactly is it that just happened to Blogger?

What exactly is it that just happened to Blogger? I saw hints that there had been some sort of security breach, and now everything is inaccessible. (And the Blogspot server is outright offline as I write this.) There was some sort of password break?

the comment submit box has my user password stored as clear text

I was looking at the source in the Auto-close Open Tags thread, and I noticed that the comment submit box has my user password stored as clear text. It's not like MeTa/MeFi need to be highly secure, but I'm wondering if there is a better way to handle that.
