Good discussions on the Blue about Big Things at their infancy?

Inspired by today's post about pulsed power fusion, I wondered what it looked like when Tesla was first being discussed and found this thread that came out in 2009 just as the Model S was being introduced. It's fascinating to read people's takes. That reminded me of the 2001 thread discussing the nascent iPod, which is even better. Do you have any favorite posts discussing now giant things when they were just being born? Tech especially is cool but more serious things like the two "Trump is running for president" threads from 2011 - where Artw presciently calls him "America's Boris Johnson!" - and 2015 are interesting too.

I kinda called it

My prediction on Metafilter in 2015: "[A]s we pull back more and more and more we see a multiverse of Peter Parkers getting their powers, each played by a different actor, until one universe becomes clearer and we see..." The reality today. "As Peter trains Miles to become a better Spider-Man, they are soon joined by four other Spider-Men from across the 'Spider-Verse,' including Gwen Stacy, Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker, and Spider-Ham."

MeTa Culpa

We love predictions. Especially looking back on predictions that have since been proven incorrect. I was thinking about the fact that a while back I predicted a certain lots-of-babies-having couple would stay together when they have spectacularly broken up and then I thought that a website full of pompous know-it-alls like us should be able to point to a bunch of predictions that we made in years past with the kind of confidence and assurance only an internet expert can muster that have been proven completely wrong. "By 2010 cloned dinosaurs will be common house pets." or "After the Peak Oil riots of 2009 we will all be living in igloos made of dead cloned dinosaur house pets." That kind of thing. So, if you please, show me your Metafilter comment wrongness. [more inside]
